3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From bottle : Pours dark and carbonated like a soda...with a monster dark two finger lacey head. Aroma is very appealing...barnyard hints with some fruits...banana and raisins being the most prominent. Very smooth on the palate with very little aftertaste. Taste is just as smooth, although it lacks the complexity of the aroma. Overall a very quality brew...and enjoyable.
22oz bottle. Poured a black color with a tan head. Fruity, caramel, and some rye breadiness. jbruner (4791) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - MAR 12, 2015
Pours a deep brownish black from the bottle with minimal ring of tan brown bubbly head. Aroma is saison yeast esters or belgian farmhouse and spice over a nice roasted toffee and caramel background. Taste follows, a little acrid, and slightly oxidized, but not as bad as you would expect for being as old as it is. cubs (10640) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JUN 9, 2014
Bottle @ home, via rotbox. Pours a deep brown appearance with a gushing, very carbonated, brown head. Some twangy, fruity aromas with some cola notes. Quite effervescent. Somewhat roasty flavor with some anise and chocolate. Kind of minty. Low sweetness. Moderate bitterness. Pretty fruity flavor. Didn’t remind me at all of a Saison. maniac (3800) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - SEP 27, 2013
Bottle on 02/13/2011 from Once Upon A Vine South.
Clear dark black body with ruby highlights and a medium frothy tan head.
Sweet spice, light fruit and some roast aroma.
Sweet spice, fruit, light roast and slight floral flavor.
Medium body with moderately high carbonation. Ed5388 (3486) - Forked River, New Jersey, USA - APR 30, 2013
22oz bomber. Pours a nearly black color with two fingers of tan head. Aroma is similar to a normal saison. Spicy and fruity, but with some roasted coffee notes. Taste follows the nose. Fruity, spicy, with a slight roasted coffee/chocolate taste throughout.

22 oz. bottle via trade last year. Pours a hazy brown-amber with a small tan head. Aroma of olives, earth, chocolate, toasted malts, cola, hints of fruit and mild rye-like spice. Flavor of earthy funk, cola, root beer, rye, toasted malts, and tobacco. Medium-bodied, with an earthy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. I know it’s a "dark saison" but it doesn’t drink like a saison at all. It’s somehow all over the place without having much of a distinct aroma or flavor. jimgraz (11) - New Jersey, USA - AUG 21, 2012
Served out of a 22 oz. in a tulip glass. Big foam that took a little while to settle down and some nice lacing down the side. Dark brown, opaque beer (what would you expect from a Balck Saison) that semlls of darker fruits (think raisins and curants). Starts with the french saison, yeasty taste that moves into those darker fruits and finishes with amost a chocolate malty taste. Everything in it seems a bit muted, though, and none of the flavors really "pop" to give it that soemthing extra and memorable. Overall, a pleasant, good beer that is easy-drinking and nice for moving into the Fall months. PhillyCraft (7345) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 31, 2012
Another beer in their side project series. I really enjoyed the Big Daddy Vladdy Russian Impy Stout so I was looking forward to this one. Growler Fill. Pours a dark black which is just plain weird to me especially since this is a saison. Medium brown head. Lacing barely present. Aromas are very different, with alot of roasted vegetable notes and slight farmhouse funk at the back end. Taste is malty chocolate, celary, spicy rye. This was my first black saison that I have tried and I cant say that I will search out this style again. I appreciate Terrapin taking a chance and will continue to support this Georgian brewer. The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of dark fruit and Belgian yeast notes, as well as some pepper and some light cocoa. The flavor is similar. The dark fruit and cherries come through up front, with some yeast, lemons, orange and caramel malt also being present. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Poured from a 22 ounce bomber. Roasted spicy malts, spicy yeast, earthy hops. A spicy yeasty Belgian stout. Very nice and easy drinking.
