Westmeister (2127) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - NOV 12, 2011
Draft at the brewery the week it came out. Big bright Challenger hops lend to mostly piney and resinous notes with a bit of citrus. Taste despite the fresh bright hops is pretty balanced which, to be honest, is not what I want in a fresh brew. Nonetheless, great to have it at the brewery and a fine beer.

ChainGangGuy (4941) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - OCT 21, 2011
11 ounce goblet - $6.50 at Taco Mac in Canton, Georgia. 2011 release featuring Challenger hops.

Appearance: Clear, copper-amber body with a ½-inch, near-white head.

Smell: Lightly resinous, earthy, floral hop notes overlaying pale malts, a bit bready to a degree, and hinting at a little citrus.

Taste: Moderately bready maltiness with a honey-toned sugar encrusted sweetness and a very minor toasty quality. Juicy, citrusy hops, not particularly effusive, but has a pleasing refreshing quality to it. Earthy, firmly floral tones beyond the citrus. Moderate bitter. Dry, gently resinous finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-light carbonation.

Overall: A curious choice, Challenger hops, but certainly a departure from the Amarillo hops used the previous year. It has a nice fresh feel to it, but, unlike the similarly named space shuttle, the hops just don’t provide a catastrophic explosion of fiery flavor.
