Terrapin Wake-n-Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout
A- obsidian pour with 1 1/2 finger reddish copper head that looks like cake batter. Very viscous. Very pretty beer.
S- semi sweet dark chocolate aromas, fresh ground coffee, some chocolate sweetness as well, like a coffee liqueur. Smells amazing.
T- big sweet and dark chocolate flavor up front followed by mellow lightly sweetened coffee notes. Bit of dark fruit in the mix as well. Bitter chocolate finish.
M- velvety smooth, thick & creamy, medium carbonation (slightly aggressive), great alcohol warming in the chest. Mouthfeel is spot on. Excellent!
O- thick & creamy chocolate coffee wonderfullness. Pitch black and heavy. The glass I poured it in looked like a giant polished Onyx. Beautiful head. Great mix of both bitter and sweet chocolate flavors as well as bitter and lightly sweetened coffee notes. This is the best breakfast stout to date. Better than Founders Breakfast Stout. Truly Excellent.
I love coffee, and I love stouts....but this is a stout I wanted to love but just couldn't. It's still a solid beer, just something about the balance didn't quite work for me. At first I thought the coffee was a little overwhelming and very bitter, but then after few sips I was enjoying it more. At the finish the hops kicked in with the background of malts which was better IMO than the however many shots of espresso they mixed in. Dark black thick oil appearance. Aroma is coffee and hops with whatever malts you can smell over the coffee. It was worth the try I guess, but for the price there are other stouts or coffee stouts/porters that I will resample.......................................... 3/15/13: This has been distributed here more over the years, so have revisited multiple times. Upgraded a point in flavor and overall. It really is one of the better, lighter IMPYS out there now. yardy81 (1) - Sharpsburg, Georgia, USA - MAR 6, 2018 does not count
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2018 One of my favorites, great flavor, aroma, and smooth. No overpowering of anything, especially the alcohol content. chinchill (5540) - South Carolina, USA - FEB 16, 2018
UPDATED: FEB 17, 2018 12 oz bottle at the moment but I've had this many times including both tap and can versions.
This is a bold and robust coffee stout, with a load of dark roasted, quality coffee along with substantial dark roasted grains. Medium bitterness. Full body. Light carbonation. jsmerig (1808) - Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 11, 2018

Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is slightly sweet with the chocolate, molasses, and oatmeal. Coffee and roasted malts come out as well on the aroma. Flavor was much better than anticipated. Thick mouth feel with plenty of coffee. Decent bitter finish as well. tsd08460 (1341) - Herndon, Virginia, USA - JAN 16, 2018

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2018 Pours black with no head. Aroma is coffee and caramel. Taste is sweet latte with hints of vanilla, moving to a rich chocolate finish. A very solid, though not particularly complex imperial stout. willisread (4207) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 28, 2017
Can from Discount. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of tan head that lingers. Big coffee forward nose, dark cacao nib aromas. Wow, the coffee on the nose is really endless. Lots of coffee on the palate as well. Medium body with creamy coffee and milk chocolate yoo hoo on the palate. Rich dark chocolate fudge. Lingering coffee and bitter cacao on the finish with creamy, coating texture. Maybe my favorite Terrapin to date. AndyW68 (1708) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - DEC 23, 2017
