4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22nd Feb 2012: Hand pulled pint, followed by three halves as I tried to leave ‘The White Hart’, Shifnal, Shropshire.
Really enjoyed this beer: great looking brew, black body with a creamy textured head of white foam.
The smells were strong and bold: roasted/toasted bread and malty molasses with some chocolate for good measure.
The flavours were more burnt than roasted/toasted but the malts rule the taste: chocolate, liquorice and coffee where the suggestions I found.
Rich and full bodied: a well crafted brew in my eyes.
Bottle. Brown with a small head. Slightly nutty flavour and strangely powerful for its strength.Maltiness lingers. Rather nice. RichardW (1813) - Carlisle, Cumbria, ENGLAND - NOV 7, 2012
Bottle. B&M Carlisle. very little aroma. Palate is moderately sweet, medium roast malt flavours, slightly leathery. Some chocolate comes in midway. Slightly sulphury and quite a harsh, synthetic finish, with some tar notes. ralphdot (1094) - Billingham, Durham, ENGLAND - OCT 29, 2012
5.2% dark ruby red colour with a disappointingly thin head, slightly sweet malt aroma, bitter toffee taste. zacgillbanks (5180) - Tyne & Wear, ENGLAND - OCT 23, 2012
Bottle from Booths, Keswick. A very dark brown beer with ruby red highlights. It has chocolate and red fruity flavours with slight smoke and leather notes on the finish. mike_77 (6661) - Breda, NETHERLANDS - OCT 5, 2012
Black, quite oily. Aroma of dark roasted malts and some coffee. Strong roasted, bitter flavour.

Bottle from B+M. Firm-bodied, glossy mahogany edged with ruby. Creamy beige foam. Dried fruit, toasted malt loaf, dark chocolate aroma. Smooth-burnt, iron-sweet with black cherry undercurrents. Satisfying. So much better than expected. tommann (3751) - Dudley, West Midlands, ENGLAND - SEP 16, 2012
500ml bottle. Pours very dark brown with a large, frothy head. Aroma is raisin, molasses and coffee. Taste has sweet molasses to start with a watery treacle finish. Hints of coffee. Nice to see something other than a 4% lager or nitro bitter from a macro. Martin243 (1156) - Tyne & Wear, ENGLAND - AUG 20, 2012
500ml bottle at home cool poured into a shaker. Muted aroma, dry dark chocolate flavour. Everything in moderation. A porter to appeal to the widest audience, so nice enough but nothing challenging ManVsBeer (10452) - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - AUG 8, 2012
Bottle conditioned dark red. Has a dry texture, low on flavours but has a mild fruitiness to its aroma.
