3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33 cl bottle @ Timo A.
Pours dark brown color with a small head. Licorice and roasted malts on the nose, faint yeast and caramel. Licorice on the flavor as well, caramel malts, ripe fruit notes and some earthy notes as well. Very smooth palate. I would have guessed this to be a Porter. Very good.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
2x33cl fliptop bottles at brewery 03-2013 and at home 04-2013. - Truly exceptionally balanced, creamy and even hop-forward Dunkelbock. The defining quality element is the virtual lack of residual sugars and caramel in the taste profile, which makes many other German Doppel/Bocks of the same etymological family unpalatable to me (Animator, Celebrator, Maximator...) Coronator is defined by its bitter roasted malts (dark chocolate, verging on tobacco), creamy mouthfeel, a reasonable mid-range ABV and a decently hopped beer underneath that. Close to a German ImpStout avant la lettre, which dare not speak its name... Justifiably the pride of the brewery (great in their parfait/creme brulée desert). Worth seeking out and deserving of a higher rating.
