20 oz bomber bottle pour, big like Texas! As the name implies, it’s almost black, like Texas crude. Very little carbonation apparent, head was super-thin, tan, disappeared quickly. Heavy on the chocolate, tootsie-roll aroma, with a hint of smoke and maybe some molasses. The taste is on the sweet side, maybe a bit too much. I would like to taste a bit more of a punch in the mouth, maybe some mild hops and Texas mesquite roasted grains to balance out the sweet. Mouthfeel is fairly flat and average, nothing that stands out. Based on an assumption gleaned from the label graphics, I was expecting a Porter that was truly Big Texas style....I think this brew has potential with some tweaking and further brewing. Pflugerville, Tx - Pecan Liquors - 22 oz bomber,.Deep dark purple leading to black pour with an initial light khaki colored head. Licorice and chocolate in the aroma. Flavor has a strong coffee and chocolate presence, some licorice accents,. Similar flavor profile, with a strong chocolate presence, some spicy licorice accents, a hint of chocolate. Silky thick mouthfeel. Pretty solid, Terrasa (2) - - AUG 29, 2015 does not count
As a fellow Texan, I picked this beer based on name and appearance alone. While the beer has nearly perfect color and golden foam, it has extreme! bite and is incredibly bitter. The beer was also slightly sour (2 out of 5) and the alcohol presence was overwhelming (3 out of 5) due to the synergy with the bitter and burnt character. My ability to taste falls slightly above average (I am an experienced (2 years) member of a sensory panel), but I am not a supertaster and I could barely get this beer down. My wife tasted the beer and reached the same conclusion. While the visuals are superb, I will spare my palate and definitely not purchase this beer again. onceblind (10893) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUL 11, 2015
Black pour with a thin Rocky light tan head. Lovely chocolaty aroma with a bit of black roast malt, a kiss of licorice and a earthy roastiness. Full robust meaty flavor of dark roast, some peated black malt, dark chocolate, and a roasty earthy finish with a kiss of coffee. drjay44 (3893) - Salida, Colorado, USA - NOV 25, 2014
651 ml. bottle. Pours a thin, poorly retained beige head, with no lacing, over a clear brownish black (SRM35) body.....nose is heavy roasted malts, with dominant coffee, lighter chocolate, no esters, minimal hops, balance to the malts.....taste is heavy roasted malts, coffee, light chocolate, cocoa, moderate toffee/caramel type sweetness, no esters, finishing with an herbal hop bitterness, almost balanced, with a lean to the malts......mouth feel, medium body, light alcohol warmth, slightly sticky, light tingling carbonation, with minimal acid. This is a nice rendition of a Robust Porter. it is reasonably balanced, slightly sweet and dominated by the roasted malts. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7

Black brew with a very thin head that didn’t hold. Smells of roasted and chocolate malts. Taste is roasted and chocolate malts with a mild off burnt taste. Decent porter but for the BIG price there are better ones that cost less. *side note: noticed others saying they got a nice head and such. Maybe my bottle just didn’t turn out right. If I am feeling up to another $7 bottle in the future I might have to check this one again. Fratto (2845) - Arlington, Texas, USA - MAY 21, 2014
