Tasted on 1/12/12 from a 12oz bottle purchased at Lush West Town. Pours a ruddy copper brown with an average beige head that slowly settles into average lace, leaving some residue along the inside of the glass. The nose is super hoppy, with tons of grapefruit peel, pine resin, dried herbs, and grass, with a nice chocolate and caramel malt backbone. The flavor starts off with a light hint of sweet malt, moving immediately to total hops domination, including grapefruit peel, an added floral note, pine resin, and freshly cut grass. The body is medium with average carbonation, and a super long hoppy finish that includes all of the hops notes mentioned above.

Bottle. Brown with small whiteish head that fades. Green, piney nose, faint roast. Thin mouthfeel, green and astringent, hardly any malt character. Meh.

Bottle: Pour is murky Brown with Amber highlights, with a modest off white head in this glass. This one has a really nice tropical fruit, citrus, pine nose. It reminds me of double bastard really. Now naturally, the flavor profile has more toasty, dark malt character. The flavor profile is definitely heavier on the west coast IPA side, I actually quite like this one, but where this brew has a subdued malt side, it actually feels a little muted because of it

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Dark brown opaque. Little head. Citrus is prominent in the nose with a bit of roast. This is a straight forward ipa and a good one. It is citrusy and also has a sweet side. I like it.

Dark brown pour, off white head. Very straigh forward aroma of hops and light caramel malt. The flavor is smooth, creamy, hoppy, malty, lightly bitter but not over the top and is a damn good brew!

Bottle from bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a huge beige head and a toffee aroma. There is a brown ale flavor with lots of treacle and a citrus finish. Complex and tasty.

Dark pour. Almost more black than brown. Fresh hoppy aroma. Very complex flavor. Certainly more reminiscent of a brown ale than any sort of porter or stout. A well crafted beer that changes as it warms up leading to More roasted flavors of burnt chocolate and coffee.

On tap. Pours a clear dark brown with a thin light tan head. Aroma of hop resins, citrus, tropical fruits. Flavor is lemon tea and citrus but less overtly hoppy than the aroma. Roasted malt is quite subdued, Im not sure I can taste any of it. Although there definitely is a dark malt presence with all the hops. Great ipa, very interesting. 8/4/8/4/15 (3.9/5)

12 oz. bottle from SoHo Organic Market in Elizabeth City, NC. The name does not lie as the pour closely resembles a brown ale albeit a tad darker. A huge amount of grapefruit can be found on the nose with a slight amount of dark chocolate in the background. Citrus and piney hops are the dominant flavor with only a touch of smoke and chocolate on the finish. The bitter hops linger on the tongue long after each swallow yet the subtle smoke and chocolate let you know this is not an ordinary IPA. With everyone rushing to make a great black IPA many brewers miss the mark. Its no surprise that with Stone in the mix this one gets it right. Outstanding.

Aroma is full of hop notes that have a more resinous quality combined with some tropical fruity notes. The appearance is exactly what it says on the bottle. It pours with a deep ruby/brown color when help up to the light. The taste is very nice, it only has a slight malt flavor that comes through as a roasted malt or a darker malt, but it is in no way the prominent flavor. The big star in this beer is the generous usage of hops in the beer. I can taste Citra or Galaxy for sure. Great beer, however; I enjoy Heady Topper from the alchemist more
