Opaque dark brown beer, thick pale tan head. Palate is light and semi soft with mild fine carbonation. Softish malt, not sweet. A little malt cream. Decent piney hops, touch of mint. Finishes soft and semi dry and somewhat wishy washy! Mild bitter linger. Okay, lack a bit of cohesiveness.
12 oz. bottle, pours a dark brown with a small off-white head. Aroma explodes with citrus hops, with roasted malt to back - a bit of tropical fruits too. Flavour of buttery caramel malts / roasted malt, and lots of resinous hops. Less roasty and bitter and harsh than Stone’s other black IPAs. Very balanced and smooth. Great. Medium brown and smells great - lots of bright, grapefruity, weedy hops. Quite dry, again with lots of woody hops. Hints of sweetish, nutty malts pull it together. Clean like a Stone beer, and deceptively simple, everything just comes together really well.

Bottle - Alcohol, dark fruit and tons of grapefruit hops. Almost opaque brown and a thick thin brown head. Flavor is complex with brown sugar, grapefruit hops and more dark fruits. Medium body, with a sublime mouth feel. Maybe a bit rich for a Black IPA, but pretty good. brokensail (16689) - Dublin, California, USA - FEB 19, 2012
A dark brown, perhaps chestnut, color with a soapy khaki colored head. A nice fresh hop aroma full of grapefruit and pine. Really quite resinous with lots of fresh citrus qualities. Really not much malt to be found. There is some toast and nuttiness to the flavor, however. Grapefruit hop notes follow quickly behind it and there is a solid bitterness on the finish with lots of pine flavor. djd07 (16289) - Houston, Texas, USA - MAR 21, 2012
Bottle at Petrol Station. Pours a cloudy brown with a small frothy off white head leaving sticky lacing along the glass. The aroma is floral hops and hemp. Thin mouthfeel with a very strong hop and grass with long lingering dry finish. A very good black IPA from The Alchemist. bhensonb (15967) - Woodland, California, USA - FEB 8, 2012
