COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
EL CUATRO is made of barley and caramel malts co-mingling with lactobacillus and brettanomyces. After brewing and conditioning, the beer is transferred into brandy & whiskey barrels to age for over a year during an extended Brettanomyces Lambicus fermentation. Prior to bottling, the beer is blended with a small portion of year-old SAHALIE. The only hops added to this beer arrive from the aged SAHALIE.
The brandy barrels and wild yeast fermentation give EL CUATRO a plum & cherry fruitiness balanced by the slight toast of the malt body.

Klimaet (3020) - Aarhus N, DENMARK - AUG 17, 2017
Flight @ Ale Apothecary taphouse. Pours hazy dark orange with a small offwhite head. Aromas of brett, malt, vinegar, cherries, apples, sweet brandy. Taste is full of brandy, apples, lactic acidity, light malty finish.

ABUSEDGOAT (2852) - California, USA - JUL 8, 2017
Hazy copper color with a white head that lasts. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, caramel, funky, moderate to low sourness, fairly fruity. Medium bodied, moderately sour with barrel and malt flavors present. It’s decent but horribly overpriced.

Shared 750 ml. bottle, with my portion poured to a fest sampler displaying a murky, dirty brownish amber color, with a modest layer of odd white foam that reduced quickly to a persistent ring, and light spots of lacing. The nose was subtle yeast & funk, tartness with a pleasant, counterbalancing sweetness of brown sugar & caramel, and esters as apple & dried fruit. The taste was similar, sweet, yet tart & tangy, medium bodied, with nice spritz to the effervescence, and a peppery, tannic astringency that intensified the touch of alcohol burn. Interesting yin & yang complexity.

750 ml bottle poured a clear golden amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of caramel, vinous notes, oak, light funk and light vanilla. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, vinous notes, oak, light yeast and a hint of funk with a smooth dry tart lingering vinous finish.

Appearance: clear medium amber with one finger of fizzy off-white head settling to a thin ring, minimal lacing. (4/5) Aroma: complex, white grape must, stone fruit, caramel, oak, malt vinegar, earthy funk. (9/10) Taste: moderate-high tart, moderate sweet, low bitter. (9/10) Palate: medium body, lively carbonation, short tart finish. (4/5) An interesting and elegant beer, reminiscent of a Gueuze or a Flemish Brown in its flavours. The aroma is pleasantly complex, with a combination of fruit, barrel, and vinegar notes. I find it just slightly aggressive on the tongue, with perhaps a hair too much emphasis on the vinegary tartness. Having said that, I suspect I’d find it too sweet if it weren’t quite so tart, so there’s that. Extremely good, and able to stand alongside some of the best (17/20) 8.5/10 #ryansbooze ryansbooze.com

3 oz bottle pour at Hops & Pie, vintage 2016. Hazy golden to amber appearance with a beige head. Aroma of mild caramel, bourbon, brandy, candy sugar, light sour funk, earth and toasted oak. Similar flavor, malty, boozy, sweet, funky and mildly tart with a lingering brandy and bourbon barrel finish. Medium to full body with a light puckering feel. Complex and pretty tasty overall.

750ml bottle pours a brown color with a bit of head. Flemish red kind of malt profile. Noticeable oak from the barrel is a little harsh. Brandy comes through strong.

slowrunner77 (12895) - Reno, Nevada, USA - MAR 25, 2017
This one was 9.72% and said on the spine label that it had aged hops, and was aged in both brandy & pinot barrels. Amber orange pour, with a little of the alcohol showing. Complex moderately tart flavor and nose, with a distinct wine character and some sweetness from the brandy. Complex and elegant, as all the AA beers have been so far.

maekchu (4054) - Hirakata, JAPAN - JAN 5, 2017
Bomber. Sweet fruit nose, with mild grapes, and tart stone fruit, and some barrel. Deep copper color. Sour fruit, mild funk, sourish buzz all along. Medium body, with moderate astringency. Very tart, rich fruit, and some back-end tongue scratching sourness.

750 ml bottle. Nose of vinegar, vanilla, yogurt, cherries. Reddish-brown, cloudy. Cherry, vinegar, grapes, wine, and yogurt in the flavor. Good.
