COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
EL CUATRO is made of barley and caramel malts co-mingling with lactobacillus and brettanomyces. After brewing and conditioning, the beer is transferred into brandy & whiskey barrels to age for over a year during an extended Brettanomyces Lambicus fermentation. Prior to bottling, the beer is blended with a small portion of year-old SAHALIE. The only hops added to this beer arrive from the aged SAHALIE.
The brandy barrels and wild yeast fermentation give EL CUATRO a plum & cherry fruitiness balanced by the slight toast of the malt body.

750ml bottle thanks to rich. Pours out a hazy burnt orange topped with a small fizzy head. Nose is lots of barrel some lemon zest citrus notes and a light funky tartness. Taste is more of the barrels citrus zing and many more layers going on.

reebtogi (6277) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - SEP 30, 2016
750ml corked bottle (April 2016 Edition - 9.72%) pours a hazy orange brown color with a finger and a half of white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is apples and citrus with some wine grapes and hints of brandy. Taste is a lemon tartness with a fruity and malty sweetness finishing quite sweet on the palate. Medium bodied with nice carbonation that pleases the palate. Overall, a fantastic brew that is unique and tasty and definitely recommended for a wonderful tasting experience.

A weird surprisingly sweet sour ale, with nice malty characters reminiscent of, like,a flemish red or oud bruin. Cool beer.

750 ml bottle numerous times. Nice lemon citrus notes, a lot going on in this beer, good amount of funk. Not overly sours. Orange in color.

ctipping (2058) - Florida, USA - MAR 26, 2016
750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottled March 23, 2013. Originally reviewed 7/4/2013. Slight haze to the orange body. Nice white head, with discrete bubbles. Settles to a collar and a few wisps. Fascinating aroma. Pale malt. Sweetness. A bit of oak. Some acids. Fruity apples and grape. Tastes of sour apple. Like a granny Smith. Sweet pale malts. Oak and light bitterness. Some yeasty esters. A hint of that brandy in the back. Booze lingers. Heavy and a bit sweet. Well carbonated. Always a fascinating beer from Ale Apothecary. No exception here. The Brandy barrel keeps this interesting, even if it’s subtle.

Bottle shared by Jeremy - thanks! Clear Amber pour, short-lived head. Aroma is cool - herbal, minty, vinegar, fruity, some funk. Taste is sweet but with nice vinegar/herbal to keep it in a cool balance. Full body, slick texture. Overall: as expected, a unique and tasty brew.
