COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
EL CUATRO is made of barley and caramel malts co-mingling with lactobacillus and brettanomyces. After brewing and conditioning, the beer is transferred into brandy & whiskey barrels to age for over a year during an extended Brettanomyces Lambicus fermentation. Prior to bottling, the beer is blended with a small portion of year-old SAHALIE. The only hops added to this beer arrive from the aged SAHALIE.
The brandy barrels and wild yeast fermentation give EL CUATRO a plum & cherry fruitiness balanced by the slight toast of the malt body.

Bottled 23APR13 11.12% Pours dark orange with a speckled screen of whites. Smells of sweet oak, some creamy white wine. Some characters of flowers. Flavor is sweet, light tartness, some cucumber, some grass. A little funk. Thin bodied with moderate carb and a dry finish. Great beer.

One of the highlights of the Epic Sour Tasting. Pours cloudy orange with great head and lacing. Coriander, some Belgian yeast. Some apple, finishes a little sweet with a little sourness. Really tastes like a Belgian strong, or quad, with some sourness. Citrus, good balance. Bottle thanks to Mr. Chopin at Epic Sour Tasting.

Bottle @ a recent tasting... Poured golden with a little to no head. I was surprised how much brandy came through on this. Low bitterness, subtle yeast spice and funk with wood, fruit, and a spirit cocktail-like character added warming boozy notes. Each sip seemed different as this really opened up. A true pleasure to drink.

750, corked and strung. Yeah, strung. Thanks so much, j&a! You guys are so cool for bringing this back. What an awesome surprise. Pours cloudy medium amber with a dense and sudsy white head. Sweetly vinous brandy nose tucked hand in glove into some fruity and balsamicy sour aromatics. Not quite like anything else. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Vinous, strawberry, and balsamic tang on the mid palate. Nice tart finish. Delicious. Harmonious, unique, flawless, and refreshing. These guys are just flat gettin in and gettin it.

Bottle at Bruces, many thanks to Colin. It pours cloudy golden orange with a medium white head. The nose is hay, floral, orange, sour apricot, peach, mild sourness, sherbet, yoghurt, vanilla and light coconut. The taste is sour apricot, peach, nectarine, pleasant sourness, sherbet, hay, floral, touch of vinegar, butternut squash and some alcohol warmth. Medium body, high carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Hides abv rather well. Very well-integrated flavour. Great stuff!

marcus (9993) - Sacramento, California, USA - JUN 9, 2014
Bottle from Haggerty. Pours clear orange copper with absolutely no head and a fruit and vanilla aroma. There is a puckeringly sour fruit flavor with no bitterness. There is a tart finish with a hint of brandy.

750 ml bottle to snifter (shared by Dogbones). Looks good; a cloudy caramel orange with eggshell head. Smells tart and funky with a nice brandy barrel presence. Tastes like it smells with a pleasant medium-bodied mouthfeel. Great beer, and dangerously drinkable.
