COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Beer Formerly Known as LA TACHE is the table sour produced year-round by The Ale Apothecary. (TBFKA) LA TACHE is made of malted barley & wheat and Goschie Farms Cascade Hops. The hops are used only for aroma as the balance of the beer comes from acid produced by our house lactobacillus culture. She spends 3-9 months in our barrels during a long, relaxed fermentation prior to a month-long dry-hopping (yes, in oak barrels!). Our sensory experience is lemon citrus & fermented orchard fruit nose over earthy undertones. The palate finishes with soft lactic acid balanced by the malt body.

750ml bottle pours out hazy golden topped with a small head. Nose is nice oak barrel some funky lemon citrus zest and spice. Taste is more of the nice oak barrel notes and plenty sour funk.

Bottle, shared at game night. Lively pour, hazy bright yellow. Lots of barnyard and lemon, woody and juicy and spicy. Lovely complexity here, really delicious. Pretty strong for what they are calling a table beer. I find it funny that every one of us reviewing this brew has commented on the egregious pricetag. But we paid it, didnt we? Bunch of suckers lol (me included).

UXO (1883) - CANADA - JAN 28, 2017
Appearance: hazy pale to medium gold with one fat finger of fizzy ivory head diminishing rapidly (and loudly!) to a thin collar, patchy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: complex, dry hay funk, stone fruit, lemon zest, sweet wheat malt, oak. (8/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, moderate tart, low bitter. (8/10) Palate: light body, lively carbonation, off-dry lightly funky finish. (4/5) A fair bit sweeter than I was expecting, except for which Id almost consider it a decent Farmhouse/Saison. It has strong similarities to Gueuze as well, except again for the relatively high sweetness. And, to be clear, that sweetness isnt overwhelming or unbalanced, but it certainly makes this difficult to characterize as anything but an American Wild. The stone fruit, lemon zest, and oak give this a strongly vinous character, and in a blind taste test, Id bet you could convince someone this was actually an oddball white wine. Quite interesting, and well worth trying if you find it - assuming you have no problem with the frankly ludicrous price tag. (16/20)

Bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow with medium white head that lasts. The aroma is oak, earth, yeast, lemon zest, oak. Medium body, lemon zest, oak, funk, brett, light tartness, really enjoyed this.

Backlog rating.
750ml bottle @ home(Thanks Jamie W). Bottled 2015.06.06. Pours a clear light golden colour with a nice white head. Nose is somewhat sulfurous(dirty socks and farts), lemony citrus, and very very funky. Flavour is lemon, sour, and dynamically funky. Interesting, but worth the price?

Bottle - Funky, acidic and bready. Gloudy yellow with a decent white head. Quick acidity and a creamy funky finish. Interesting and not really worth the crazy price.

750ml corked bottle pours a hazy yellow golden color with a generous white head that retains well and leaves some decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is lemon with some mild funk and citrus and barrel tones. Taste is a lemon tartness with a fruity and malty sweetness and citrus hop bitterness and a dry yeasty finish. Medium bodied with abundant carbonation. Overall, a well done sour ale that good, but cant justify the price tag for this one.

A 2015 bottle on the Ale Apothecary beers tasting at Firefly on Cambie. Bottled 06-Jun-2015. Tasted with Brian. Pours a clear pale golden with a white head. Aroma is funky, earthy, kind of exhausted gas (which disappers after several minutes), lemony. Taste is sour, earthy, lemony, fermented veggies notes (sauerkraut). Refreshing, good stuff.
