Cask at Tapped Leeds. Hazy amber/gold shade. Buttery malt flavours up front with plenty of herbal hop notes to follow. Not bad but I’m not a huge fan of the flavours here, and it doesn’t come close to living up to its name.

Cask at Craven Arms, Birmingham. Pleasant enough washing bowl mouthfeel, by which I mean it’s quite liquiddy and slippery. Hops yes, but somewhat raw/burnt or something. I drank it and enjoyed it, but can’t go underboard.

Stale golden body, slight cushion of a wee finger head that lasts, cascading to the dregs. Dry peanut shell incased hop nose. Cloying mouthfeel before chance to take any note of a citrusy quench that seemed to be rummaging underneath. Firm but fair midrange involving little more than a puff of dry hop and trickles of cheap from concentrate orange. Very sweet. Little bit more kick on a bitter finish, but nothing to believe it to be a ’Monster’.

Keg. Hazy golden ale with a stark white head. Lemon and pineapple zest nose. Taste is hoptastic - huge gut punch of lemon, grapefruit and slight mango bite. Perfect for this sweltering day.

Old Fountain. Light haze on this gold beer, tidy white head. Light dry palate. Initially dry and astringent, it takes awhile for the hop fruit to kick in. When it does there is mango, orange pith and a touch of lemon. Dry finish with good bitter linger. Just a tad too bitter on the start.

DruncanVeasey (8225) - NUNEATON, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - APR 10, 2012
Couple of pre-match pints in The Crown, Nuneaton, 09/04/12. Orange gold with a generous, persisting white collar. Intense, stripped-back bitterness; grapefruit, stewed but flowery TT-like hop with celery and Darjeeling notes smoothed out with a lick of creamy malt. Urinal, grapefruit, toilet rug, dishcloth lemon and lime aroma. Pungent, quinine-bitter. You’ve got to be in the mood for hops to take this one on. A lovely, pungent smack in the face.
