12 ounce bottle from Winerak Market in Zanesville, OH, served slightly below cellar temp in a Maudite glass. Opaque jet with a moderate diminishing light tan bubbly head, little lacing or residue left in the glass....aroma of cigarette ash, dates, vanilla, more smoky and toasty than anything else though some lovely cookie-malt notes do present themselves after a couple of nosings....on the tongue, quite roasty and fairly bitter, velvety-soft and lightly syrupy and quite thick on the palate, with an exquisite light sweetness running all the way through, like a bar of milk chocolate slowly melting in a cup of dark chocolate and espresso; it’s just the perfect light touch of sugar to take the edge off the bitterness, and it carries through to a fine bittersweet chocolate finish...low to moderate carbonation throughout, virtually no flavor or aroma of alcohol. A nice surprise; I expected it to be decent as these guys haven’t made much that I’ve disliked, but this is really terrific and hits my particular sweet spot for the style pretty much dead on. The flavor has burnt grain, burnt coffee. Bitter chocolate. Way more bitterness than should be here. Not sure if age has anything slightly off with this.mThe body and texture is also on the thin side. I just have a very high standard for imperial stout. This doesn’t really meet it.

Roastiness is the first thing that I could think with this one...it’s a thick roasted aroma that carries itself into the flavor very well. Very smooth with a big flavor. Very Good. dnstone (3524) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - JAN 22, 2015
Deep chocolate-brown in color with tan head. Dry flavor; malty, chocoaltey flavor. Rich roasted chocolate aroma.

This one is a gem. Let warm to the appropriate temp and set back and enjoy the explosion of flavor. Coffee and chocolate truly dominate this beer. Tasty!!!
