Sample at the brewery. Aroma has caramel notes. Some hop. Flavor is good, and I usually don’t care for ambers. Palate is thick and finishes mildly dry. Flavor has a sweet maltInnes to it. Overall its a great beer. hopscotch (11113) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 23, 2002
UPDATED: JUN 5, 2003 This beer really rocks.
The color is a beautiful Mohogany/Amber. The aroma is very malty and very fruity. Both really come through in the flavor as well. Very malty with a big fruity flavor (plums), but not sweet. The finish is crisp and clean. Just a terrific amber ale. jazz88 (2679) - San Francisco, California, USA - MAR 5, 2003
Tap. A mahogany brown reddish color. Lots of caramel and burnt malts. The first sip was rewarded with a cherry fruit flavor. Not being an amber fan, I was very impressed with this beer. I.C.suds (189) - Da U.P. eh?, Michigan, USA - MAY 7, 2004
Toasted biscut with honey sweet and malty followed by a crispy floral hop. Balance is the key. A frothy head that stuck to the plastic cup that this beer was served in.(a sin). rmussman (1701) - California, USA - MAR 5, 2007
Sampled in Truckee. A nice brew. Aroma was fair but the key was the appearance. Was very dark red with a thick head. One of the best amber ales i have had. Mouthfeel is smooth and the flavor is nice and hoppy.

Draft at brewpub. Low aroma (kind of like a Vienna lager), appearance good. Good head retention. Most important the flavor was good. The favor wasn’t hot w/alcohol but I caught a buzz. AleDrinker (1089) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - JAN 12, 2006
Very good amber. The description said it had good caramel flavor. I didn’t detect any caramel at all whatsoever, but there was plenty of roasted malt present. A nice surprise. This was more of a light porter than it was an amber ale. Still very good though. nearbeer (5424) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - JAN 17, 2015
UPDATED: JAN 24, 2015 Pint on tap at the Peppermill’s Bimini Restaurant. Clear copper with a lasting disc of foam. Aroma is toast, toffee and a bit of toasted nut. Tastes of caramel, toasted pecan, spicy citrus and hint of dry cocoa. Light-medium body has a pleasant medium carbonation and a nice balance. heemer77 (5358) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - JUL 14, 2008
Tap at the brewpub. The body was dark copper with a thick khaki colored head. The aroma was almonds and toast along with some oranges. The taste was walnus with some toast and citrus. A decent brew, but a little boring. bb (9268) - Alamo, California, USA - MAR 28, 2014
Draft. Reddish-amber beer with a cream head. Malt aroma. Malt and light citrus flavor. Medium bodied. Malt sand light citrus lingers.
