COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
5 Golden Rings is the 5th verse in our ’12 Days of Christmas’ winter seasonal ale series. This is the only golden ale in the bunch but it definitely packs a holiday punch. We spiced up this 11.5% ABV ode to Winter with cinnamon, allspice and ginger along with some delicious sweet and tangy pineapple.

750 bottle from Capone’s, Blue Dog, and Smith’s. Pours hazy gold with minimal head. Nose is apricotty fruit, mild funky yeasty, hopcitrus. Tasted dry, fruity, cloying, with mid-palate hops, and an overall discombobulated holism. I actually found it hard to finish, as it just didn’t meld together.

Soft amber gold pour with haze and one finger of off white head. Rich nose, ginger and cinnamon show with a touch of alcohol and bread dough. Raw fruit and sharp alcohol. Tad acidic, pineapple shows. Weird. Underattenuated and way too rich. Full bodied.

Draft. No head atop clear amber body. Aroma is moderately sweet, tropical fruit, some alcohol, light candi sugar. Taste is sweet, orange, papaya, some candi sugar, light alcohol, lemon. Sticky full body, no carbonation.

Capped 750 from Malt & Vine. Pours somewhere between orange and copper with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is pineapple, mixed spice. Maybe a hint of ginger. It has that Belgian yeast smell as well. Med + body. Flavor is pineapple, mixed spice, pretty sure ginger. As a separate consideration Belgian yeast/spice might also fit. It is rather sweet/sour. Or sweet/tart. This stuff is challenging my descriptive powers. It really puts a grip on the taste buds. Heat is not an issue. At least not initially. That pineapple seems to be the single identifiable dominant characteristic.

Bottle at ChrisO tasting, thanks to Peter but ultimately Myrna, 30/12/12. Hazed light to mid golden with a thin off white head that escapes to edgeville. Nose carries sweet candied sugars, malt, spice, caramel, dark ripe fruits, touch of booze. Taste comprises pineapple, sweet sugars, caramel, dark fruits, a little spice. Full bodied, soft carbonation, boozey finish. Decent!

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2013 pours orangish yellow with low foam, smell is spice and pineapple, its a bit heavy on the alcohol finish for me, but not bad.

750 ml bottle. Pours a murky deep orange with a foamy off-white head. Nice lacing. Aroma of pineapple, sugars, cinnamon, allspice, and floral hops. Boozy. Taste is of tart pineapple, loads of spiciness, and a subtle caramel malt. Balances the tartness out very well. A little on the sweet side, but not a bad BSA. Pineapple is definitely there but not overwhelming. Enjoyable once you get used to the boozy warmth from mouth to tummy.
