COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
5 Golden Rings is the 5th verse in our ’12 Days of Christmas’ winter seasonal ale series. This is the only golden ale in the bunch but it definitely packs a holiday punch. We spiced up this 11.5% ABV ode to Winter with cinnamon, allspice and ginger along with some delicious sweet and tangy pineapple.

Lots of fruit in the aroma along with some yeast and booze. It pours amber with a thin head. The flavor has the fruit, both sweet and sour, candy sugar, Belgian spice and some more booze. The finish is long and warming.

On tap it has an amber color with a large head. Aroma of apples, pineapple and yeast, mostly fruit. Taste is sweet and sour. There is pineapple, lemons and then some alcohol. Which is more than I thought. Good finish.

The aroma is sweet, fruity, apicy. The appearance is hazy orange, white head. The flavor is fruit, spices, pepper, yeasty. The finish is fruit, pineapple juice, spices, pine. Medium in body, slightly thin. I enjoyed the beer, but it’s fairly unremarkable overall. Like most of the beers in this series.

Draft at Jerry’s. Orange-yellow with creamy, white head / Rich, sweet nose of banana, orange, tropical fruit, and spice / Full body, very sweet to point of cloying, underlying tartness, creamy, with good balance and and lightly bitter finish / Flavors of banana, pineapple, coconut, orange, white grape, caramel, and oak / Clearly the effort is there, but to me cries out for more hop balance.

A strange beer that tastes very strongly of pineapples once you know it’s there. Sour also but an Interesting beer for sure.

Tap. Pours hazy orange/amber with thin, fizzy off-white head; short retention and spare lacing. Aroma is lemon, citrus esters, bread and cookie malt, light spice, and light caramel. Flavor is sweet malt and sharp light fruit esters forward, light hops and spice to balance things out; dry, citrus finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

Bottle. Pours deep gold with a slight little white head. Aroma is a big funky, spicy belgian. Taste is like a big belgian, lots of spice and yeast, with a BIG hit of puckering pineapple. Very natural tasting though, nothing cloying here. No real trace of alcohol in the taste, but it definitely comes through in the warmth. Almost like a really strong IPA.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2012 750ml from Valley Farm. Deep golden in color. Strong yeasty nose with a dry sort of thing going on. Quite sweet up front with a little bit of spice. The finish is syrupy sweet with a touch of alcohol. A little dry at points and tripelish. Decent ale, just nothing special.

On tap. Clear golden with a fluffy white head. Sweet malty pear, apple, pineapple, and spice aroma. Tastes of pear, pineapple, allspice, and grape, with a tangy wine-like finish. Bright medium bodied palate. Quite good.

Before I tried this beer it sounded like a bad idea, sweet strong golden with pineapple juice - nasty. Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with off white head. Quite sweet, spice (ginger), banana, lots of booze, and strong pineapple in the back ground. Way too boozy, yes its sweet, and the whole thing turns out like I thought it would. I do not like it at all.
