Sampled on draft at Hou Thou this beer poured a hazy golden amber color with a small creamy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was boozy apricot and pear. The flavor was tangy peach, apricot, alcohol, table sugar and pear. Long tangy and sour finish of apricot, pear, sugar and booze. Thick and full body. Clear golden with a thin white head. Dusty hay aroma with some Belgian blonde malty aroma and malty sugary sweetness. Smooth flavor with lots of complexity going on. Peppery yeasty funk esters with blonde spicy malts, herbal bitterness, spruce tips, and dry hay/barn flavors, and a little pineapple sweetness. Bottle. This pours a deep golden hue, bordering on an amber color. The aroma is earthy and hints of alcohol and spice. But this drinks with a pleasant, rollicking tropical fruitiness up front, with an evident high gravity burn carrying the background. THOUGHTS: Hid alcohol almost unbelievably well. Very unusual. The pineapple was dominant and the spices weren’t very noticeable. This is a true rival to Mad Elf. Both are fruity Belgians that are deceptive in their strength. I wish this was a seasonal and not a one-off. Thankfully I have another bottle to age thanks to my brother and his fiancée. A very nice Christmas treat even if it wasn’t very Christmasy tasting.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a slightly hazy, medium to dark gold with an average, off0white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma had light colored cake; underlying holiday spices; hints of alcohol when warmer; mostly pineapple; and put them all together to get pineapple upside down cake. The initial flavor was moderate to heavily sweet, slightly acidic and lightly sour; while the finish was heavily sweet, lightly acidic and slightly sour. A - Slightly hazy golden-orange with a finger of frothy white head. Fades normal.
S - Sweet caramel and grainy malts, pineapple, citrus hops, lemon zest, Belgian yeast, coriander, clove, ginger, cinnamon, other spices, hint of booze.
T - Sweet caramel and lightly grainy malts, pineapple juice, citrus hops with a bit of bitterness, lemon zest, Belgian yeast, coriander, clove, cinnamon, ginger, other spices, and some booze.
M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a spicy, sweet, and warming finish.
D - Very drinkable. Great BSPA with the spices being complex and well balanced and the pineapple juice is a nice touch.

A nice sweeter Belgian, with unusual winter-style spicing. Only criticism is the ABV is unnecessarily high and not masked well. This brew would be better at 8-ish ABV instead of 11.5.
