bottle courtesy of thome50, thank you for this long sought after whale! Good stuff, the barrel and the base beer play well together. i felt like it was a little more balanced than most of the ba offerings from the bruery, which was nice. still a big bourbon profile upfront, but the base beer smoothly comes through in the middle and back, nice transition. thewolf (12635) - Kolding, DENMARK - OCT 9, 2011

Pours deep dark red with a small, staying, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has mild smoke, sweetness, oak, vanilla, plums, rye bread and strawberries. Light vinious. Lowish carbonation, fat and oily mouthfeel. Kinda light mouthfeel still. Flavour is pleasantly soft, light smoke, some spicy rye, vinious, raisins, dry, grainy, light liqourice. Soft and delicious. Certainly an example of how a barrel-aging can improve a beer.
UPDATED: JAN 17, 2012 Bomber. Dark maple pour with some head. Nose is all kinds of fall goodness and should be replicated into a car air freshener. The base beer for this is phenomenal. Spices galore with yams, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, and everything that a fall beer should be. The bourbon adds another couple of notches to this experience. One of the best I have ever had. hamilton23 (619) - Alpine, California, USA - OCT 2, 2011
Poured from 750ml bottle. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aroma is sweet potato pie with a nice amount of bourbon. Taste is sweet with flavors of vanilla, sweet potato, cinnamon, nutmeg and all spice. I am a big fan of the base beer. This variant adds to that great base beer, just dialing up the flavor and adding the element of vanilla and booze. Love it. beerisgoodforu (992) - Nørresundby, DENMARK - SEP 24, 2011
Bottle. Pours a nice dark brown color, with a small tan head. Aroma is filled with spices especially cinnamon, along with a yamm-like character, lots of rye and bourbon too, along with oak, vanilla and maple syrup. The flavor is filled with oak and bourbon, with lots of rye and spices like cinnamon, along with the yam and maple syrup character, brown sugar, molasses and vanilla. The body is medium with a sugary sticky mouthfeel. Overall a really nice spiced ale, and a interesting break from the pumpkin ale tradition.

I believe this batch is 14%. Dark dark amber brown, with swirly off-white light tan head. Lots of yams, sweet malts, caramel, bourbon sweetness, vanilla, and maple syrup. Pretty tasty. AmEricanbrew (6878) - Same Trailer, Different Park, Louisiana, USA - SEP 11, 2011
Hazy dark amber brown color/ fleeting beige head. Earthy sweet yam, vanilla, molasses, maple, fall spice, cinnamon aromas. Medium body. Mild to medium sweet flavors of candied cooked yams, brown sugar, vanilla, molasses, fall spices, whiskey, mild booze--nice fall football season kickoff brew--very good 1FastSTi (3360) - Glendale, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 4, 2011
Thanks for sharing this beer Ben. The aroma is vanilla, bourbon, and yams with a subtle marshmallow. The flavor is sweet yams and vanilla with some bourbon and maple syrup. Very unique and nice. The palate is super. Sweet but not sugary. Medium bodied and balanced. Poured to a murky dark mahogany reddish body with little to no head. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 1, 2011
Many thanks to Ben for bringing the 750mL bottle over! Poured deeper reddish-amber with not a whole lot of head sticking around.. bigger bubbles around the edges. The aroma picked up sweet bourbon and peppery notes over a heavy dose of meaty yams.. the rye really kicks in on the back of the nose.. very interesting stuff! The flavor found tart, yet sweet whiskey and oak upfront, with yam and caramel sweetness backing it up.. pinches of honey and more yam on the back.. the whiskey played an interesting and complementary role.. tasty stuff. Medium-plus bodied and spicy on the palate, with low carbonation.. dry and whiskey-ey in the end.. I really enjoyed it. arminjewell (9687) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JUL 1, 2011
Big thanks to BenC for this bottle. Pour is murky reddish brown with thin tan head, aroma has notes of vanilla, yam, caramel, toffee, some slight spice, some molasses as well. Taste is nice mix of vanilla, slight wood, bourbon, caramel and toffee, some slight yams and spice notes, finishing slightly sweet and dry. Much much better than the regular, the bourbon compliments the yams well.
