From The Bruery:

“For our first local collaboration beer of 2013, we teamed up with our good friends at Beachwood Brewing in Long Beach, CA. We’ve worked with these folks on a number of small batch brews, beer dinners and general shenanigans for many years and it was really exciting to sit down and work on a full scale project with them for the first time. What we ended up with is an imperial smoked stout, but of course it wasn’t that simple. We smoked our own malt on the same smoker and with the same blend of three different woods that Beachwood uses for their award winning BBQ - apple, white oak and pecan. We then aged the beer on those same three types of wood. The resulting stout is hearty and wonderful, balancing the rich, meaty smokiness with the sweetness of the malt.”

750 ml bottle from bev4less. Pours a dense black color with a small tan head that has fair retention. The aroma is kind of muddled with indistinct mocha, grains and light smoke. The flavor, unlike the aroma, is a powerhouse with many complex tastes--such as bitter walnuts in the forefront followed by chocolates, mocha, vanilla, plums, anise, campfire smokiness and more bitter nuts. The palate was full sliky smooth and viscous, just perfect, and the carbonation was soft. Finishes long and dry with lingering bitter walnuts and anise. Overall: Top shelf stuff, I loved it.

Bottle, roasty, moderate mouthfeel, good balanced thickness, well made but the smokiness was odd. Didn’t really fit.

Sampled from a 0.75l bottle @ Top Hops (BA) Bottle Share. Pours deep dark brown in the glass with only a small brown filmy top. Really smoky nose with chocolate and cocoa. This is how I like my smoked! Blended with coffee roasted malts and chocolate!. Bacon and ham. Smells quite nice this! More smoky bacon in the taste. Really nice. Soft prickling and oily in the mouth. Roasted, some cardboard towards the beefy tail. Tasty. 15.06.2013

This brew is an inky black color with a medium beige head that diminishes steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked malt, wood and chocolate. Medium to full body with flavors of burnt malt, fudge, earthy hops and wood. The finish is smokey with a woody and malty aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Large milk chocolate head. I get a slight bit of bourbon and mostly chocolatly goodness. I was hoping for more smokiness but not so much in my bottle.

Bottle at home. Aged two years. Black pour, solid tan head. Aroma is full of roasted malts, licorice, chocolate, molasses, wood and some burnt malts. Flavor is quite bitter and roasted. Huge body and subtle carbonation. Still only a bit sweet. Very nice brew.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured black color with an averge frothy tan head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy chocolate roasted malt, wood with a small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy balanced roasted sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.
