Another brand new sour ale! Beauregarde is our first ever use of blueberries and we couldn’t be happier with how this beer turned out. We added an incredible amount of fruit to our barrel aged, sour blonde ale and the result is just as expected. A lovely shade of reddish purple with flavors of tart blueberries, just in time for summer. Perfect along side a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

ruddy pink cherry, thin filmy head. Blueberry and acid nose, thick and acetic. Lots of acid right up front, palate washed out, thin with no carbonation, blueberry skin bitterness, dryness competes with acidity. The blueberry is strong enough to balance acids, thankfully.

Bottle (2013 Edition) shared, poured into a tulip. Pours a caramel red/brown color with off-white head. Smells of tart fruit, grapes, vinegar. Tastes of tart fruit, grapes, blueberries, big vinegar, acidic notes. Big sour notes. Medium body with a dry finish.

Pours a rosey pink color with a finger of fizzy pink foam. The nose is tart blueberry, barrel funk, musty grain and lemon. The palate follows the nose initially with nice funky blueberry barrel funk on the front end but quickly dives deep into a burning vinegar acedic mess. Stomach acid that burns the throat and leaves the palate dry and quenching. Way to sour for its own good !

750ml bottle shared thanks to Lukaduke! Pours semi clear dark violet with very small head. Nose is sour acidic berry and musty basement funk. Taste is sharp sour berry and juice. Finish is sour lacto fruit with lasting blueberry skin which is pleasant once the harsh acidity fades from each sip. Pretty good, but a tough drinker.

750ml bottle pours an inky blue with some cloudy, white head. Nose has berry, herbs, candy and just a lot of tartness. Flavor is very tart, lots of acid, berry, a little booze, sweet tarts, wood pulp. Tart finish. Not my bag.

Bottle. Pours hazy pink with a small, fizzy white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is tart grapefruit, lactic acid, earthy wheat malt and earthy yeast notes. Flavor is tart, lactic grapefruit, light stale hops, light bitterness, spicy wheat malt and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Syndicate hooked this one up tonight... Thanks a ton Darrel!! I caught the bottle a few pours in and it was a bit murky brown/purple. Nose is big lactic sour with a nice punch of blueberry.. well done but a bit blown out IMO. Flavor is tart, puckery, sour, tannic and THEN the berries come in on the finish. 2 dimensional is a generous observation... still, somehow the blueberries are so lovely. Such little berries harbor a huge kinship in my heart. Very happy I got to try this one.. Big props again to Syndicate! Thanks Darrel!!

750ml bottle thanks to Darrel. Pours out a pinkish topped with a dirty pink head. Nose is sour berries and some sweetness. Taste is as the nose with lots of berries and some tart. This is a nice sour. Keep the abv low and sours will turn out.

Pours cloudy and purple-tinged amber in color. In strong light, it’s brightly magenta. Small off-white head. The head dies away relatively quickly. No big deal, regardless, but particularly not for a sour. The aroma shows off the sourness right away. Lots of acetic and lactic sourness. Lemons and oak. The blueberries come through but get a bit muddled and could definitely be brighter and fruitier. This is a beer to drink sooner rather than later - probably a bit late with this bottle, already. Some vanilla. It’s pleasant enough but fairly simple and a touch harsh. The fruit doesn’t show up as juicy as I’d like, and there’s a sort of bile-ish note to it. More than anything, it doesn’t have the funk delicacy of better sours. Taste is similarly a bit too harsh and simple. The acidity is strong and needs to be dialed back so other flavors can shine. Sour blueberries and oak. Finish is a bit gummy as the acidity passes. The vanilla shows up again. Lots of pucker. A bit tough to drink after the first six-ish ounces. Happy to have tried it but it didn’t live up to expectations. The base sour just isn’t quite my cup of tea.
