Another brand new sour ale! Beauregarde is our first ever use of blueberries and we couldn’t be happier with how this beer turned out. We added an incredible amount of fruit to our barrel aged, sour blonde ale and the result is just as expected. A lovely shade of reddish purple with flavors of tart blueberries, just in time for summer. Perfect along side a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

Bottle, 10/03/2013. Pours deep purplish red, thin white fizzy head dies to stillness within a minute or so. Aroma is fruity, blueberry with berry skin, sweet tartness cutting through round lactic bouquet laced with vanilla, wood and oak in the end. Taste almost overwhelms initially with puckering sourness, takes some time to get accustomed to, revealing sweet tart berries, mildly acetic biting finish, dry finish with faint oak. Medium body. Far from my favorite Bruery sour but decent enough.

Smells like a like sour and surprisingly bright fresh fruit. Taste is smooth light citric sourness and fresh blueberries. Medium body, medium carbonation, and mild foam.

Bottle, meh, A vinegar bomb. Just blueberry vinegar. Way better than oceanside though. Some bluberry flavors if you search hard enough, otherwise, its all vinegar.

Currant and oak aroma, hints of marshmallow peeps, but tart overall. Pinkish copper, thick peach colored head with no retention. Very very tart, currant, apple core and oak. Not much of a blueberry presence except for in the finish, but I doubt I would have been able to identify it as such if I wasn’t expecting it to be there. Velvety, tannic, very tart, fizzy, a bit like putting a 9v battery to your whole mouth. A delicious sour that’s a real challenge for the palate.

Bottle. Fresh blueberries and lactic malt aroma. Cloudy purple with minimal head. Sour lactic blueberry malt and mild hay flavor. Dry finish. Pleasantly blended.

Bottle. Pours cranberry fizzy fast fading head. Aroma of funky berry. Taste follows. Finish is tart and crisp

Nicely balanced, but one-dimensional. Fermented berries and citric tartness dominate both the palate and the nose. If you like that, you’ll like it.

750. Very sour, very acidic, possibly too much. Lots blueberry. Decent fruited sour.

Backlogged rating, summer of 2013: Slightly hazy deep golden hue with purplish highlights with fizzy head. Tart berries (not really blueberry but a combination to various berries), touch of lemon tart, a bit of tannic barrel and earthy minerals leading to a quick dash of spices. Nice and refreshing but I wanted a true Blueberry flavor, not a mish mash.

Bottle shared at Sante. Pours reddish purple with a pink head. Aroma is pretty nice, with fresh vivid blueberries, lemon and raspberry. Flavor is harsher, vinegar and green apple but still decently fruity and lactic.

2013 Vintage

Tasted on 8/31/13 from a capped 750mL bottle. Pours deep garnet red with an average pink head that leaves thin, spotty lace. The nose is sour with blueberry skin, plenty of earthy funk, and some very light nutty and oaky vanilla oak and malt. The flavor is dominated by intense sourness with the blueberry skin, funk, malt, and oak all in the background but adding complexity. The body is fairly light with plenty of blueberry skin and oak tannin, and a long intensely sour fruity finish.
