2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Sample from Tyler at The Bruery, served at my home brew club meeting. Thanks to Pat and Tyler for bringing this as a sample. Sorry but big and strong doesn’t impress me. Hard to consider this a "beer." Well-brewed and quality is there. After hearing Tyler talk about how this is brewed I understand they go to a lot of trouble to get this to come out this strong and be drinkable. I enjoyed about one ounce but would not wish for more. Just because it’s rare doesn’t make it desirable to me. Mostly tasted like boiled licorice and molasses with hot sweet alcoholic finish.
750ml bottle at the November DC Ratebeer tasting - 2015 vintage? Poured a black oil color with not much, if any head. Maybe a small, wispy tan head. Aroma was light roast, lots of boozy notes, dark chocolate, roasted dark, bitter chocolate. Vanilla, bourbon, roasted notes. Wow, really really good. Thanks Donnie! From a bottle at the November RB DC tasting. It is brienish black color with a slight head. The Aroma is boozey and the taste is smooth and sweet and has a true boozey flavor and a Smooth finish. superspak (6015) - Waterford, Michigan, USA - NOV 10, 2017
750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/18/2013. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a small foamy khaki head with decent retention, that reduces to a ring of lace that lingers. Minimal lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, fudge, brown sugar, maple syrup, almond, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, dark bread, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, and date; with light notes of marshmallow, licorice, smoke, pepper, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. A bit of increasing booziness in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity yeast, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, fudge, brown sugar, maple syrup, almond, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, dark bread, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, and date; with light notes of marshmallow, licorice, smoke, char, pepper, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate bourbon/oak spiciness and light roast/char bitterness on the the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, fudge, brown sugar, maple syrup, almond, molasses, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, dark bread, dark fruit, marshmallow, light smoke/char, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity yeast, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Mildly increasing dryness from bourbon/oak spiciness. Medium carbonation and very full body; with a very creamy/silky/velvety/rich, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden; a lightly increasing warmth of 18.9%, with mild lingering barrel booziness after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged imperial stout! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, fruity yeast, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the enormous ABV. Bruery stouts always seem to have a class of their own on the flavor profile. Not as deeply roasty or charred on black/roasted malts like some others; but still extremely rich and complex. Outstanding barrel integration and balance, without feeling overly boozy, tannic, or drying. A highly enjoyable offering. andrewje41 (4257) - Kenmore, Washington, USA - OCT 29, 2017
750 mL bottle poured, generously shared by Tcon. Thanks for sharing this one! Long wait to finally get a chance to sit and pick apart this beer. Bottle aged one year, though I have no real experience with any other vintage. Poured a bit cold at first. A ton of chocolate, dark fruits bordering tart. At first blind taste, I thought this leaned more towards a barleywine over an impy stout. Quite boozy. Guessed in the 17 to 18 range, so apparently on the smooth side all things considered. This beer really shines as it warmed up. A ton of bourbon that comes through. Thick, rich with caramel, but less sweet than I would expect. So much chocolate and smooth bourbon holds on forever in the palate. This is a bottle that is brilliant to open early on in the night, and sip on. It refuses to get old. Probably one of the best of all the really big beers I've tried, being above the 15 or so range. Incredible beer here. Andgun87 (48) - - OCT 25, 2017
@mbcc17 - Väldigt komplexa smaker, choklad, kaffe, portvin, rågbröd och en viss syrlighet. Lite lite spritig men inte så konstigt.

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2017 Bottle pour. Almost sour on the nose - intense but hard to identify. Maybe the barrel. Full bodied. Medium sour flavor. Coffee. Intense. Really good. Piotrek4 (309) - Lublin, POLAND - OCT 9, 2017
2015 Bardzo miło pachnie. Wanilia, orzechy laskowe, mleczna czekolada. Erzengel (9502) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - OCT 7, 2017
19.5%. Extreme great deep fresh nose. Great deep fresh intense beginning. Lots of deep brown sugars, plums, raisins, chocolate. Fantastic deep, nice brown molasses with an extreme deep aftertaste. Beerhunter111 (22513) - P´Castle, GERMANY - OCT 7, 2017
