COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
4 Calling Birds was our 2011 winter ale - a spiced strong dark ale. We took inspiration from the traditional winter warmer for our fourth verse, integrating gingerbread spices into a robust dark ale. Notes of licorice & banana bread mingle with dark fruit, molasses and bitter chocolate for a perfect cold weather sipper! This is the Bourbon Barrel Aged version of last years holiday seasonal! Spending a year in rich oak barrels, the beer has picked up incredibly deep and luxurious notes from the oak and bourbon, but has maintained it’s original charm.

Barrel aging improves this dark ruby beer by adding additional notes of vanilla and oak complexity. Still plenty of alcohol punch despite its age.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured hazy ruby brown color with a large fizzy brown head that was mostly diminished with fair lacing. Aroma was as complex heavy spicy nutmeg and wood. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy spice dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish with medium to long alcohol bite. Interesting good brew.

Bottle. A: Dark mahogany in color with a thin cappuccino head. N: Light bourbon, clove, raisin, prune and fig. Some caramel and toffee. Burnt brown sugar. Lightly cherry. T: Quite sweet. Almost cloying. M: Medium body, spritzy carbonation, light alcohol burn. O: Tasty. Not sure how this compares to a normal BDSA but I like it.
