Aged bottle. Pours a deep murky brown with a tan head. The aroma is sweet smoke, plums, chocolate; very complex and exciting. The smoked malt and maple play very well in this beer. I enjoyed every sip.

Older bottle shared by alexsdad06 pour dark cola brown with thin tan head. Nose, sweet malt, almost like grape juice, maple, and smoked peat. Taste starts sweet, then smokey malt, then woody maple instead of syrup. Slight earthy.

750--thanks, N! Awesome unexpected treat. Pours a murky near-black ebony with a loose and creamy tan head that disappears. Big sweet nose, showing dried fruit and overripe dark pitted tree fruit and then a candied bacon note coming in kinda outta nowhere. Creamy thick sticky body with moderate carb. Fruity, smoky mid palate, not really coherent. Heavy cloying finish. Interesting combination but can’t really call it a triumph.

750 ml bottle aged a few years now. Pours a dark brown color with hints of red at the edges and topped by a thin khaki colored colored head that quickly fades to a thin film that leaves streaks of lace on the glass. The aroma shows notes of smokey meat and smoked malt to go with notes of toasted caramel, oak laden vanilla, and maple syrup. I was hoping for more maple syrup, but the smoke tends to over power it. The flavor follows suit with more toasted oak, caramel, maple syrup, and smoked meat. Notes of oaky vanilla and smoke adds more depth and balances things out. Nearly full bodied with average carbonation that leads to a lengthy smokey finish. The flavor is showing some signs of oxidation and the maple syrup isn’t as prevalent as I would have hoped. Still a very tasty beer with nice levels of smoke that hides the alcohol well. This has still held up well and I enjoyed it.

Poured from a bottle. Aroma has lots of malt notes. Tons of dark caramel and toffee with a bit of a tootsie roll character. Light maple and burnt sugar notes. Faint oak and alcohol spice. Hints of tobacco, leather and medium light smoke. Pours dark brown with some burnt amber hues and a small, moderately thick, dark tan head that recedes to a thin film, thicker on the edges that seems to linger. Medium light lacing and legs. Flavor has a moderate sweetness with a lot of dark caramel and toffee. Lighter burnt sugar and maple syrup notes. Faint oak notes with hints of vanilla. Light tobacco and leather with medium light smoke and hints of ash. Medium bitterness and hints of alcohol spice. Some light oxidation is presenting itself. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Medium low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, not the most impressive beer from these breweries. The malt character turned out a bit too dark and astringent and masks some of the sweet maple syrup that should be more prevalent. Good, but not great and also past its prime. The smoked character also doesn’t seem to help the beer.
