We take Mash, and then add Portola Coffee Lab’s Lucio Delgado (Columbia) at a rate of 1 lbs. per 10 gallons. This has contributed an intense coffee aroma and some additional body, with flavors of raspberry jam, tart pineapple and maple brown sugar. Why did we release two versions of this beer, one with coffee, one without? Mash & Grind is certainly delicious on its own, but we deliberately sought a strong coffee aroma and flavor so you could try your own blending, if you like. Try adding "Mash & Grind" to "Mash" (or the other way around) until you find your ideal blend. Of course opening two bottles of high ABV beer is recommended when among friends.

Haslinger (962) - The World of Beer, Texas, USA - OCT 13, 2013
bottle, dark caramel pour. Some coffee and sugar in the aroma. good brown sugar, roasted coffee flavor a bit too much going on but solid beer. Would drink again but probably would not buy with so many other great Bruery beers out there.

hopdog (12953) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 19, 2014
750ml bottle. Poured a deep and cloudy amber color (almost a brownish) and a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of coffee grounds, caramel, fruity, wood, and earth. Tastes of vanilla, caramel, brown sugary sweetness, coffee, and citrus. More coffee in the aroma vs. the tastes with the alcohol overall well hidden.

Tasted on 2/4/15 from a capped 750mL bottle, thanks to Kyle for sharing. Pours hazy deep auburn with a thick beige head that leaves thick, uneven lace. The nose is really dominated by coffee with some nice maple and bourbon. The flavor is more bourbon and maple than on the nose, fairly sweet, but the coffee is the real focus with nice bitterness. The body is full with light carbonation and a long maple and coffee bitter finish.

750 ml bottle. Date of 10/27/2014. Dark Amber color with bubbly head. Aroma is big on coffee with mild level bourbon with a mild amount of oak. The flavor is bourbon forward without the alcohol or massive warming after the sip. The main base is toffee and caramel. I wish I would have tried just the Mash base first but I am always hesitant to let any coffee brews sit so I decide to open this now. I got to say just enough coffee-bourbon - toffee balance. I really enjoyed sipping. Much more manageable when the brew is under 13%!!!

Bottle.Muddy maroon -- a melted burnt umber crayon. Half a finger of dense, Nesquik-colored head fizzles away slowly. Lots of milk chocolate in the nose. Vanilla, lots of toffee and spicy light roast coffee as well. Smooth. Coffee is more pronounced in the flavor. Tangy toffee settles into the sides of the tongue. Soft oak, a hint of green apple, a touch of vanilla. Smooth blend -- the coffee and vanilla make an interesting pair. Quite a bit of boozy warmth. Moderate prickles of carbonation in a medium body. Despite the alcohol content, it’s fairly light on the tongue. Not too bitter. Much better than Mash, the coffee adds quite a bit to this brew and the blend is smoother. Very nice.

GenDV138 (7579) - Falls Church, Virginia, USA - SEP 4, 2015
750 ml bottle poured into a Bruery tulip. 2014 edition at 13.7% ABV. Dark brown with two fingers of light tan head. Aromas of caramel, coffee, bourbon, toasty notes, light oak. Tastes of caramel, sweet roasty coffee, bourbon, brown sugar. Medium body with a dry finish. No alcohol on the finish. Pretty well masked alcohol for 13.7%. Seems like there might be a hint of infection but hard to say, not enough to detract though.
