Backlog from 2010. Poured a dirty, dark brown color. ARoma of smoke, alcohol, vanilla, wood, scotch, and caramel. Flavor was very good. Alcohol there, but not too overpowering. Sampled at the Bruery Provisions store in Orange which is a very cool place I might add. Murky brown with a slight orange hue and minimal head. Aromas were of sweet malt, bourbon and oak. Full rich mouthfeel and very smooth. Complex flavor profile of caramel, sugar, smoky grain, dark fruit, and molasses. These all blend very nicely with a long finish. S: The smell is like a good scotch. A lot of smoke, alcohol, wood, butterscotch, and vanilla. Perhaps a bit of peat in there too.
T: The taste is quite sweet and has a fair amount of booze to it as well. The vanilla, butterscotch, alcohol, and smoke really are the big components of this beer. The oak comes through quite a bit as well. And did I mention it’s boozy? An interesting blend for sure.
M: The mouthfeel is quite heavy and creamy. The carbonation is light, and I think it would have been helped out with a bit more on that front.
D: This is a very boozy beer. I found the flavors to be quite nice, but I just could not get past the level of alcohol heat in this. I’m sure it would mellow out with time, but obviously, that’s probably not going to happen.
On tap at the Bruery Reserve Society Initiation. Pours dark brown with slight head and adequate lacing. Very sweet aroma with good mixture of oak. Taste is very complex, easily masking the high alcohol content with sugars and smoke. A very solid, enjoyable beer - but even better when I mixed it with Oude Tart. Yum.

On tap at The Bruery for the Reserve Society Initiation. Oh man, DBJW. I feel dirty even reviewing this. Where the hell did this name come from? The beer, like the name, is pretty interesting. Not like many I’ve had before. Pours ruddy brown with not much in the way of head, just a few bubbles. Aroma is really bourbony. Some caramel, wood, smoke, and dark fruits in there as well. Flavor is complex and pretty crazy. Caramel, toffee, earth, leather, smoke, and sweet rum raisin cake. Oh yeah, and booze. Quite a bit of it in this one. 15% ABV is not surprising. Smooth and medium-full on the palate with low carbonation. Lots of alcohol warmth, as this is a bit hot. Overall this is an interesting and good beer, but the booziness kept it from being an awesome one. Tap at the reserve party. Rating #8. Murky brown pour with very little head. Aroma was fantastic, I got a bit hit of dark bitter chocolate at first sniff, some dark fruits, very fragrant. Flavor was also quite outstanding, lightly sweet (although later samples were sweeter as the day moved along), a little more chocolate. Very tasty, had about 4 pours.
