COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Tart is a Flemish-Style Red Ale aged in red wine barrels for 18 months. Its pleasantly sour with hints of leather, dark fruit and toasty oak. While this is one of the more classic beer styles that we make, its not a style that you can find too often in the United States. Originating in style from the Flanders region of Belgium, near the French boarder, this dark, sour ale has roots deep in brewing history and predates most of the ales that have become popular in contemporary culture. Were doing our best to keep the tradition alive by brewing and aging this beer here on the west coast.

Very dark mahogany color. Green apples, oak and cherries dominate from start to finish, but the nose is somewhat subdued and boring. Moderately tart, but more mainstream examples of the style are far superior. Good, but I wouldnt return to.

Bottle. Poured a clear ruby color with an small to average fizzy tan head that mostly diminished with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, sour and wood aroma. Medium to full body with a sticky tingly texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy dark fruit sour flavor with a medium to heavy dark sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.

Pours deep brownish red nearly black with a small off white head. Aroma woody, tart, acidic some red wine character from the strong fruits, leather and earthy. Flavor starts sweet and sour, with the sweet from cherry and a dark fruit plum character and the sour in the form of balsamic and lemon character. Really nice balance, love the red wine barrel came together very well.

400th RATING! It seems only yesterday I rated my 300th beer. Seems only fitting that this feat should be of my favorite style. StFun with the artillery. Many thanks! 750 mL bottle. To stemmed wine glass it pours a sandy burnt umber with a sudsy stil de grain yellow/buff (pale yellow-brown) head, one fingernail in length. Aromas of rawhide, pinot grapes, wood, lemonade, mint leaves, Asian pear, yeast, apples, and funk. Nice! Tastes of leather, cotton candy, pine needles, vinegar (brief, but its there), cooked wheat, grape seed oil, black olives, edible moss, and brett/horse blanket. Refreshingly tart. Booze noticed but not right away; its a creeper so be careful.

Bottle: The aroma consists of sour cherries, light cola, lemon, faint vinegar, and vanilla. It pours a hazy reddish-brown with a small beige head that quickly fades to a moderate ring around the edges of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate sour cherry. There is some faint cola in the background. The finish has moderate-heavy sour lemon, light vinegar, vanilla, faint oak, and a touch of vinous notes. Its medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
