COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Oude Tart is a Flemish-Style Red Ale aged in red wine barrels for 18 months. Its pleasantly sour with hints of leather, dark fruit and toasty oak. While this is one of the more classic beer styles that we make, its not a style that you can find too often in the United States. Originating in style from the Flanders region of Belgium, near the French boarder, this dark, sour ale has roots deep in brewing history and predates most of the ales that have become popular in contemporary culture. Were doing our best to keep the tradition alive by brewing and aging this beer here on the west coast.

I have found a new love for sour beer and beers like this are why. Sour, sour and more sour. I think the red wine barrel aging is why you get the oak and fruit flavors. Over all just great beer.

Pours a dark red to brown. Tart aromas with strong hints of cherries and notes of oak. Tasting it, the first thing that hits you is the tartness followed quickly by a roastiness. May be a little too roasty for the style, but would be a good accompaniment to a smoked, fatty meat.

2013. Red wine. Red and dark fruits. Rich oak-tannins taste. Some not bad and acceptable vinegar. Sour enough. Perfect soft carbonation and pleasant mouthfeel. The best Sour Ive had from The Bruery.

Red ale, straight forward sour with hints of fruits and oak. You get some of the wine undertones but not much. A good go to sour.

I get heavy molasses notes, a little brown sugar, and some ginger and another spice - maybe cinnamon? Im not sure - all with a mellow sourness that is clearly there, but by no means oppressive. This is one of the best beers Ive had in a while.
