Messy, somewhat oily and a peppery bite. Aroma and taste don't line up. Not bad, but not great.

750ml bottle brought back from The Bruery. Dark brown almost black with a thick, foamy, tan head. Aroma of pumpkin pie and chocolate with some graham crackers. Flavor is dry cocoa, vegetal pumpkin, astringent spices and a fair amount of residual sweetness. Medium to full body with a foamy mouth feel. Pretty good pumpkin beer, the spices aren’t overdone and it’s not overly sweet. bs476 (80) - - OCT 14, 2012
Cardamon, clove, cinnamon, anise. A good beer. Had at Stone’s "Pour it Black" pantanap (3366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 10, 2012
750ml bottle from last year’s release i believe. seemed like a good time to try this one given the season... pours a mostly opaque, deep cola hue, consistent throughout and topped with a creamy fluffy light rententive khaki head... aroma of pumpkin and spices, cardomman (sp), cedar, and light roasted chocolate malt also reside... flavors are more of the same with creamy pumpkin, carraway seeds, rye bread, and smooth cocoa, a light woody additive feature from the cedar is also detected. flavors are semi-sweet in nature, with a creamy and silky body with not a whole lot of bitterness. spices seem pretty assertive still even with a year or so of aging. couldn’t drink too much of this in one sitting but it does hit the spot for fall.
