Tart of Darkness is a traditional stout that we aged in used oak barrels from The Bruery that had previously housed beers such as Cuivre™ or Black Tuesday®. We then brought them over to Bruery Terreux, added our special blend of souring bacterias and wild yeasts and watched nature take its course. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty, sour stout. Not a style you will see very often, and in our opinion, not a style seen often enough. This unique stout has notes of tart plums, roasted coffee, vanilla and oak.

Bottle at Papsø’s - Thanks. Black - offwhite head. nice sourness, berries, rubber, balsamic, fruity, tartness, chocolate, licorice, refreshing sourness, coffee notes, oakey, lacto, pleasant.

Restrained aroma in a thin black pour. Tart taste is a little one dimensional to start but builds to a complex and subtle beer that is eminently enjoyable in the end. Another winner from the Bruery.

2015 bottle, very dark brown beer, almond colored head. Aroma is toasted batley and goat. Taste is vineagar, hydrochloric acid, lemon juice, lime juice. There’s no malt left now, just acid. Palate is medium, carbonation average.

2014 bottle. Aroma of tart dark fruit, lactic acid. Hazy brown with off-white. Taste is moderate sour and dry. Light body, dry feel and sour finish.

Bottle. 2014 bottle. Pours greyish black with a small white head. Aromas of cherries, chocolate, vanilla, oak, lemony, balsamico. Taste is lactic, cherries, balsamico, oaky, light acetone, vinegary.

Bottling date 6/22/15, #223 part 1, 18-month old bottle. Pours opaque ruby red-black with a small, thin bone-colored head that was gone quickly. Notes of tart cherry and chocolate to the aroma, maybe some lactic sourness too. Body is medium-to-full with some oil to it. Very dry finish. Flavor is lactic sour, with notes of chocolate and cherry underneath.
