COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

body is orangey-golden and cloudy, head is very tall and creamy like merangue, very light tan/dusty white colored. lots of clingy lacing. lots of fizz up the middle of the body. aroma is white pepper and very citrusy like twisted lemon and tangerine rinds, a little yeast, weak brett, and bready rye malt. mouthfeel is highly carbonated, flavor is tangy dry citrus like dried orange peel, pale and dry bready rye malt, some bitter hop, yeasty earthy dried grassyness/hay. very spicy in the finish like peppercorns. a little citrusy bitter hop aftertaste.

25.4floz (750ml) bottle - 2016 year indicated, paid sale price $6, and poured the contents into a tulip glass. Appears an opaque deep golden color with a large amount of froth. Airspray best defines the aroma I detect, but it doesn’t taste as such. Instead the palate consists of white grape and light grains over a fizzy, full-body feel. In sum, this is a pretty good saison that is dry and on the upper end for alcohol content.

750 ml bottle thanks to an Untappd buddy. Thanks Matt M! 2016 vintage. Aroma is dusty yeast, citrus, rustic grain.

The flavor has the earthy grain but it does "scream" rye at all. The citrus and yeast does show with a bone dry finish. Brett hasn’t added any funk, just turned the finish bery dry. Good but not really a repeat buy with so many others better in the style.

Smells really nice. Dry sour but with some definite fruit sweetness. Pours apricot/gold with a foamy bright white head. Leaves a white foamy layer on top and a shortlived film on the glass. Starts off fruity sweet but then hits with a pretty hard funky sour that then fades to a slight citrussy bitterness. Really interesting. Yeast. Fruit. Bread. Funk. Earth. Lots going on but really well balanced.
