COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

Muddy beige. Minty, camphor kind of phenols on the nose. Really big yeast character. Spicy, with hints of pepper.

Bottled 750 ml at Beer Hunters
My first beer from this brewery. Hazy orange color, small white head. Sweetish peach aroma with light white pepper note. Foamy carbonation. Ginger, cinnamon, bretta and mint in the flavor. Very spicey Saison. Not very Belgian.

Bottle. Clear deep golden with medium off-white head. Flavour is malt, yeast, spices, hops, little bitter, little citrus and a little brett.

Bottle, 75cl, thx to papsoe. It pours a hazy orange body with a big diminishing off-white head. Citrus, some caramel, a touch of brett and spices in the aroma. Ginger maybe. Sourish flavor with lemonpeel, spices and alcohol. Dry, medium to full body, fizzy and warming. Decent, spicy finish. I like the spicyness in this beer, but else it was quite ordinary. Or rather maybe just not my beer. (080823)

A: A hazy/cloudy reddish-orange color with a large white head. S: Spice, bread, and yeast are the main traits that I pick up. The complexities that I hoped for in this (especially the Brett) are not all that present. T: The taste is better than the nose. Still not quite as "funky" as I would have liked for a Saison, but better than I would have expected. Caramel, bread, slight taste of rye, some herbal character like a lot of their beers seem to have. M: Medium body, decent carbonation. D: A decent Saison, but not as good as I was hoping for.

75cl bottle @ WWT 1. Hazy murky yellow color, big white head. Smell malts, anise, herbs or spices and some paint. Taste malts, yeast, herbs or spices. High carbonation, medium body.

Bottle from South Bay Drug (though I have a spare from Bottle Barn). Orange gold color with a large whitish head. Aroma is spicey over fruit and light malt. Medium body with vigorous carbonation. The brett funk is up front. Next is like sucking peach pits. Lots of sharpish spice. Puckers my mouth - i.e. astringent. Finish is mildly sweet, fruity, funky. It’s the cleanest funk (?) I can recall. The rye finally comes center stage. It’s genuinely mouthsmacking. Perhaps the best Bruery I’ve had so far.
