COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

Has a very strong aroma, smells more like a quadruple than a saison to me. Tastes kind of like a cross between a saison and quadruple, lots of heavy fruit.

Pours golden, bit of white foam. Aroma of candy sugar, Belgian yeast, caramel, spices. Tastes candy sugar caramel, not much bitterness but still has that Belgian yeast character. Dried fruits, fig and prunes. For this look, taste is quite different - which is kind of cool. Rye spice, fruits coming out in the finish. This kind of beer could actually lure me into liking those Belgian styles. more than I like them now. Drinking this as a good trippel, not really as a saison though,

Pretty good stuff. To me it seems like a and Amber sour saison. Aroma is fruit minerals caramel and hint tart. Flavor is similar to nose, has good balance between sweet and tart, very smooth and drinkable.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2016 Bottle, 75cL. 2.5 years old. Home. Shared with my dad. A sparkling golden orange beer with a big white head ; good retention ; poured with many yeast sediments. Caramel, roast, sugar, candied fruits, light herb. Medium sweet, round, light dry bitter refreshing, light acid. Light to medium body, light silky texture, good carbonation, bitter sweet acid short finish. Overall, fair belgian ale, but disappointing : I expected much more of this "saison".

75cl bottle. Golden hazy with big head. The beer has strong apricot, banana, pepper aroma with sponge cake and some little, enriching wine wine (nail polish) thing in the background. Aroma is fruity and sweet. There are also notes of orange zest, fresh apple and some little acacia honey. So far so good. The beer has a strong carbonation but still easy to swallow. The body has an oily texture but still can be perceived as thin. When it comes to taste I was expecting more acidity or dryness but the beer is charming with a strong Belgian profile that I was longing for a while now. Alcohol is perfectly hidden. Easy to drink and well rounded, rich flavor. Nice stuff.

Bottle at the Growler Spot. Clear amber with resilient off-white head. Aroma of brett, mustiness, light citrus peel, and rye. Tastes funky and lightly bitter. Medium bodied and dry. Very solid.

Poured from a 5 year old bottle that I lost track of in my cellar. Aroma is sweet with caramel, honey and some burnt sugar. Some light spicy, herbal notes. Light toast. Hints of citrus with a woodsy, herbal, earthy note as well. Some light stone fruit, red apple and pear esters. Pours a hazy, murky brown color with some copper and amber hues and a medium large, fairly thick, slightly tan head that recedes fairly quickly to a thin film that lingers for quite some time. No lacing and faint legs. Flavor is similar to the aroma with a moderately strong sweetness with some light acidity. Quite a bit of caramel with some lighter honey notes and burnt sugar. Some lighter toasted bread and rye notes. A moderate bitterness with a medium light spicy, herbal note. Hints of fruity esters and some citrus. A light earthy note and a hint of alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low, but noticeable alcohol warmth. Overall, this beer is definitely past its prime, but is interesting. Its difficult to tell form the age what it was like fresh and its been a very long time since I had a fresh bottle; probably 2011. The age is off putting, but also enticing so its just weird. I was expecting more funk, but there is very little. Instead, the malt dominates the flavor and aroma.
