Saison Rue is an unfiltered, bottle conditioned, Belgian/French-style farmhouse ale. This is a beer of subtlety and complexity, with malted rye, spicy, fruity yeast notes, biscuit-like malt backbone and a slight citrus hop character. With age, this beer will dry out and will become more complex with rustic notes of leather and earth from the contribution of a wild yeast strain. Being a saison, Saison Rue is ambiguous unto itself as it is a different beer when fresh and when aged.

This pours an amber color with a large head and good head retention. The beer is fairly rich for a saison but overall very consistent to the style

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2017 Bottle. Golden pour. Aroma of apple marmelade, mild tart and white grape. Taste of tangy white grape, cider, aged malt and bretty horseblanket. Weird and nice.

2013 vintage. Aromas are ripe fruits & mild spice. Rich rye bread malts with soft pepper/coriander and light fruit notes on the palate; a lot of earthy yeast notes coming due to the age. Not as funky as Id expect from the added brett. At 9.5% ABV, its an imperial Saison with huge flavors and no strong alcohol bite. Three years on this bottle did wonders. Incredibly drinkable and delicious on its own but is begging to be enjoyed with food.

Bottled, 25 cl sample. Hazy orange color, medium frothy head. Aroma of flowery hops, sweet candy but not the Bretty bubblegum i hoped for, bit sweet caramel. Soft flowery bitterness, bit dry, sweet candy. Ok, but expected a bit more from the wild yeast. It seemed more of a belgian strong ale now.

Big bottle shared by caesar. Orange colored, small but lasting head. Distinct nose, grainy, Belgian beer spices, farmhouse like. Bitter and spicy flavor, caramel malts, interesting developing and lasting finish. Good, interesting, but not truly spectacular.

bottle @ Liquor Barn / Danville KY --- Aroma of malt with light sour in the background. Foggy medium amber with a bunch of rising bubbles, creamy beige head that stays put at 1/2", sprays of lace. Taste is caramel malt with a light edge of sour. Medium carbonation, well-hidden alcohol, and a return to caramel at the sour end. Way lighter than 8.5% would imply, but balanced and well-conceived.

October 19th, 2014 - The Bruerys Saison is a darker beer, or at least, is served in darker environs, cloaked in shadows and served in a faded wood table. But even here the grain color is visible. The aroma doesnt care what the lighting is, delivering its custard, vanilla, tangerine and jasmine mixture with a calm and enticing composure. The mouthfeel is foamy and light, but clears to reveal a long and dry aftertaste. Spicy edges of coriander outline core flavors of wheat and banana, giving this saison some flavorful heft, and moving it away from the dry side of the saison spectrum.

Pours golden, bit of white foam. Aroma of candy sugar, Belgian yeast, caramel, spices. Tastes candy sugar caramel, not much bitterness but still has that Belgian yeast character. Dried fruits, fig and prunes. For this look, taste is quite different - which is kind of cool. Rye spice, fruits coming out in the finish. This kind of beer could actually lure me into liking those Belgian styles. more than I like them now. Drinking this as a good trippel, not really as a saison though,

Pretty good stuff. To me it seems like a and Amber sour saison. Aroma is fruit minerals caramel and hint tart. Flavor is similar to nose, has good balance between sweet and tart, very smooth and drinkable.
