Brewed with beachwood and cherrywood smoked malt, and aged in bourbon barrels, Smoking Wood is a delicious demonstration of what wood has to offer when it comes to beer. This imperial smoked porter is brewed with a hefty amount of rye malt, contributing to a full body and light spiciness. Toasty oak, caramel and vanilla flavors balance the smokiness, contributing to an intense yet refined flavor profile.
The previous release of Smoking Wood was aged in rye whiskey barrels while this more limited version was aged in bourbon barrels, contributing a different nuance to the already complex ale.

Inky black pour with a creamy khaki-colored head. Aroma is that of bourbon, creosote and soy sauce. Flavor is full bodied and bold with heavy doses of bourbon, some chocolate notes, a bit of molasses and dates and some back end soy sauce notes. Not quite cloying, but n the neighborhood near the bottom of the pour. Thick sticky mouthfeel. Not the hugest bourbon barrel aged fan - but this one drank pretty good. Thanks to Jame at Proof for the bottle share,

Nice wine-style bottle, inky pour, no head. Vaporous aroma, all the inviting vanilla, cocoa, impy stout aroma elements. Viscous. Fairly sour and whiskeyish. Thanks to Jme down at Proof.

mateuszk (2769) - Poznań, POLAND - APR 3, 2017
Bottle, 2014. Lots of bourbon, oak, nice vanilla and proper porterish notes of chocolate and dried fruits. Full bodied, sweetish, smooth. Finish bit boozy, sweet. Great brew.

Pours dark brown but is pitch black in the glass. Tan colored head. Aroma is powerful, bourbon, booze, chocolate, green coffee beans, smokey, oak, dark fruits. Flavour is dark chocolate, huge smoked note, green pepper skin, green coffee beans, oak, lots of booze and whiskey. Full body, sticky mouthfeel, warm and light dry finish. A winter sipper. Wow!

Backlog, ocena przepisana z untappd, w ramach uzupełniania profilu na ratebeer. W zasadzie esencja ciemnego, mocnego piwa leżakowanego w beczkach po bourbonie. Szkoda, że w piwnicy została mi ostatnia butelka.

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2017 Molasses-date nose with some smokiness. Medium sweet with an overlay of bitterness and cherry notes. Slick, smooth, medium-heavy mouth feel, tarry, but with no harshness. A wonderful, sippable, imperial porter.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06 pour opaque black with thin tan head. Nose molasses, smoked peat, raisin, light wood. Taste bigger than the nose, sweet malt, red fruit, fig, then mid palate big smoked peat. Some barrel mid to late. Nice mix of flavors.

750ml bottle (thanks Rasmus) as 14% abv. Pitch black color. Tiny to almost no head. Sweet, alcohol, caramel, toffee and roast in aroma. Alcohol makes aroma quite harsh to sniff. Plums, raisins, woody, toffee, bourbon, alcohol and sweet in taste. Nice and mellow. Hints of smoked wood in aftertaste. Alcohol is quite present. Very nice brew, but alcohol is way too visible.

750ml bottle - thanks Rasmus!
Lovely rich sweet roasty aroma. pleasant whisky, touch of burnt wood, alas an unavoidable blast of alcohol. Fortunately way mellower in the taste, beautiful chocolatey porter roast, proper barley, not dark adjuncts faking it up. Palate full, sweet, but not too sticky. Bourbon builds more and more as my hand warms the glass, booze comes through, that’s a shame. If only they’d brewed this at 8-10% and not doped the whiskey so high, it would be superb.

750ml bottle. Dark brown, almost black colour. Lots of bourbon in the aroma. Also cocoa beens, hints of peat and toffee. Sweetness, buorbon at first. Vanilla and toffee in the middle. Alcocholy spiciness in the end. Bourbon in thr aftertaste. Smooth and mellow mouthfeel. Bourbony, slightly alcocholy palate. Rather heavy bodied and well balanced. Very good brew.
