COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sour in the Rye is an American wild ale. A challenging beer to brew due to the substantial amount of rye malt, but youll be glad we took the time. The character of the rye asserts itself with clove and pepper in the aroma and flavor, and contributes a full body not generally found in sour beers. Pleasantly sour with notes of tart cherry, rustic earth and vanilla notes from a year-plus of barrel aging.

courtesy of Philipp Sigg - clear reddish-amber beer, decently sourish aroma of cherries and vinegar, some herbal tones too; moderate carbonation, full-bpodied, a fair sourness, a long lingering cherry-ish and vinegar-like finish with notes of mint - excellent

Pours orange with a 1 finger bright white ring. The aroma has notes of brett, rye, malt, caramel, and wood and is super tart, funky and vinegary. Taste is very tart but nothing like the nose, drinkable with nice fruity notes. I really like the balance of flavors in this beer and it is incredibly drinkable! funky sock acidity and caramel just a hint of rye spiciness. Full-bodied and creamy with soft carbonation. This baby is sour. Some spiciness from the rye. Dry and smooth citric finish.

Tasty beer with a surprisingly bold sourness. Prickly carbonation up front; smoother toward the finish; and a bit sticky in the aftertaste. Fatty texture. Spicy, grainy malts. Rich sourness with notes of cherries, wood and vanilla. Really satiates my sour beer craving.

Sour sweet and inviting aroma. Nice dark red/brown color with white head. Taste is sour and full. Boozy with some malt. Very filling. Palate is zesty and full with plenty of sour pucker but no over powering. Well balanced.

2013 bottle. Pours a cloudy orange with medium frothy off white head that leaves sticky lacing. The aroma is a strong tart and sour fruit and oak. Medium mouthfeel with lots of sourness up front with sour cherry and vinegar. Easy to drink a very impressive sour. Really enjoyed this one.

Bottle shared by MrHoppy - thanks! Pours hazy amber with a medium off-white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is quite woody, with notes of lemony tartness and a bit of spiciness. Flavor is very similar, notes of barrel, red wine, tart cherries. Light sweet, medium tart. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel Quite a nice beer.

2013 version On tap at Brouwers cafe sour fest. pours a semi hazy orange color with a medium white head that leaves good lacing, smells of oak, spice, rye and cherries. Tastes of all the same things in the smell but the rye was hardely even apparent. Mouthfeel was medium and semi chewy with a decent amount of carbonation and a dry finish. This was a great sour, but I was expecting more rye given the name. I like the extra sour kick it has though.

Pours straw like color with off white head. Aromas of sourness. Flavors of tart cherries and cloves with a mild hint of peppers. This was much better on tap than from the bottle. Im not a huge sour fan, but this is one of the better ones I have had.

Was pleasantly surprised with this one. On tap at Brouwers Sour Fest 2013. Transparent orange. Mellow up front, and the rye note really comes through nicely -- a good earthiness behind. Wow does this one develop -- a really nice zing toward the end that really builds. Impressive.
