COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sour in the Rye is an American wild ale. A challenging beer to brew due to the substantial amount of rye malt, but youll be glad we took the time. The character of the rye asserts itself with clove and pepper in the aroma and flavor, and contributes a full body not generally found in sour beers. Pleasantly sour with notes of tart cherry, rustic earth and vanilla notes from a year-plus of barrel aging.

Bottle shared by MrHoppy - thanks! Pours hazy amber with a medium off-white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is quite woody, with notes of lemony tartness and a bit of spiciness. Flavor is very similar, notes of barrel, red wine, tart cherries. Light sweet, medium tart. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel Quite a nice beer.

2013 version On tap at Brouwers cafe sour fest. pours a semi hazy orange color with a medium white head that leaves good lacing, smells of oak, spice, rye and cherries. Tastes of all the same things in the smell but the rye was hardely even apparent. Mouthfeel was medium and semi chewy with a decent amount of carbonation and a dry finish. This was a great sour, but I was expecting more rye given the name. I like the extra sour kick it has though.

Pours straw like color with off white head. Aromas of sourness. Flavors of tart cherries and cloves with a mild hint of peppers. This was much better on tap than from the bottle. Im not a huge sour fan, but this is one of the better ones I have had.

Was pleasantly surprised with this one. On tap at Brouwers Sour Fest 2013. Transparent orange. Mellow up front, and the rye note really comes through nicely -- a good earthiness behind. Wow does this one develop -- a really nice zing toward the end that really builds. Impressive.

2013 bottle. Pours a hazy golden brown with little to no head or lacing. Aroma is heavy on the sour, nice and lactic from brett, a hint of spiciness on the back end. Taste follows, tart spicy goodness. This is probably the best sour I have ever had, psyched to have tried it.

Bottle to Pint Glass. 5/11/13. SO EXCITED FOR THIS! Pours cloudy orange with an incredibly active (obnoxiously so) white head that will not stop. Aroma is all that is good; sour fruits, tartness, vinegar, rye, oak, citrus, candi, Taste is sour for days; fruity, sour candies, vinegar, spice, acidity, citrus, astringent; nice subtle notes of wood, vanilla, earth (from the barreling?); finish is more sour citrus. No lacing. Medium-high carbonation. Astringent, aggressive mouth feel. This was excellent. Reminds me of Sweet-Tarts. Rye in a sour was a great idea.

Big bottle in a tulip. Pours cloudy, copper with an off-white, lacy head. Aroma of fruits, cherries, oak, rye, plus a nice sweet tart/sourness. Flavor a really interesting combination of these elements. Average texture. A good sour beer.
