COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sour in the Rye is an American wild ale. A challenging beer to brew due to the substantial amount of rye malt, but you’ll be glad we took the time. The character of the rye asserts itself with clove and pepper in the aroma and flavor, and contributes a full body not generally found in sour beers. Pleasantly sour with notes of tart cherry, rustic earth and vanilla notes from a year-plus of barrel aging.

Sour sweet and inviting aroma. Nice dark red/brown color with white head. Taste is sour and full. Boozy with some malt. Very filling. Palate is zesty and full with plenty of sour pucker but no over powering. Well balanced.

750ml bottle. Thanks, Sten. Pours amber colour. No head. Earthiness, slight barnyard, notes of burnt caramel, acidity, vinegar, oak in the aroma. Acidity, notes of burnt caramel, notes of sherry, acidity, notes of plums, sourness. Acidic and dry finish. Plums and acidity in the aftertaste. Rather medium bodied, complex, acidic brew. Nice one.

January 21, 2014 - with blankboy, jercraigs & mabel - 750ml bottle. Hazy amber-gold with an average lasting foamy mottled beige head. Frickin’ sour aroma - sour and fruity. Taste - sour fruit, alcohol and some bitterness from oak tannin - a nice bite to it - the barrel seemed to impart a bit of brandy or other brown liquor character - lovely, if hugely sour. Acidic, solid carbonation, long dry sour finish ... straightforward but bloody fun; I could have drunk the whole bottle.

A great beer that combines two of my favorite things. The rye peppiness and the sharp tartness don’t disappoint. It seems like it should be a more aggressive beer than it is. Well balanced.

Aromas of rice vinegar, apricot, orange peel, vanilla, tangerine, barnyard funk, coriander, white wine, light lemon and slight herbiness. Pours a dark copper with a very slim white foam and no lacing. Taste brings white wine, rice vinegar, extreme tart green grapes, acidity, lime and salt upfront. Mid palate gives way to barrel complexities, sour warheads, candy sweetness, coriander, orange peel, vanilla, alcohol sugars and funky malts. Finishes pungent and sour with residual rice vinegar, lemon spruce and white wine. Faint herbs and rye dance about the palate. Overall, a very refined sour with a solidified complexity and sour attitude. A rating.

Bottle sharing w Multi Qlti. Ofc alkohol kompletnie niewyczuwalny. Tyłek urwany.

750mL capped Champagne bottle. 2016 vintage Pours a hazy apricot gold body, small head. Aroma rather intense - grapefruit, unripe pineapple, grainy malts, hay, spice touch of acetic acid & ethyl acetate, cheesy/horsey funk, oaken vanilla. Palate is tremendous - stacks of grippy acidity, ropey tannin, sort of like a Gueuze without the lively carbonation. Flavours a full-on, lingering, very complex & unique - candied grapefruit, fermented pineapple, leather, cheese, odd leafy sort of funk, hay, there’s some peppery grainy rye notes that linger, oak too - that candied sort of peel character keeps coming back - very interesting and unique. Very intense, complex and different; love it!

Bottle. Clear golden amber with no head to speak of.Aroma of cherries grainy bread, light spices, a little sweet liquor (if I say butterscotch schnapps it sounds bad, but I don’t mind it) buried underneath. Very close to flat, slightly slippery. A balance of sweet and sour, with some vinegary notes. Cherry is less obvious, grainy and spices perhaps more so. A bit salty as well as sour at the end I wouldn’t really have guessed rye. Little intrigue, but tasty with nice balance.
