COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sour in the Rye is an American wild ale. A challenging beer to brew due to the substantial amount of rye malt, but youll be glad we took the time. The character of the rye asserts itself with clove and pepper in the aroma and flavor, and contributes a full body not generally found in sour beers. Pleasantly sour with notes of tart cherry, rustic earth and vanilla notes from a year-plus of barrel aging.

Expensive-ass pour at the otherwise cheap Beer Study in Chapel Hill. Hazy, about the color of the label, a little darker. Modest white head. Nose of acetic lemon and cherry, oak, some vanilla and lactic notes that are more pronounced on the tongue. Bit of sharp spice from the rye. Little pucker on the finish. Solid.

Bottle sharing w Multi Qlti. Piany właściwie brak. Intensywność aromatu rozkurwia sufit. Stajnia, fura owocw, skra. Ofc alkohol kompletnie niewyczuwalny. Tyłek urwany.

750mL capped Champagne bottle. 2016 vintage Pours a hazy apricot gold body, small head. Aroma rather intense - grapefruit, unripe pineapple, grainy malts, hay, spice touch of acetic acid & ethyl acetate, cheesy/horsey funk, oaken vanilla. Palate is tremendous - stacks of grippy acidity, ropey tannin, sort of like a Gueuze without the lively carbonation. Flavours a full-on, lingering, very complex & unique - candied grapefruit, fermented pineapple, leather, cheese, odd leafy sort of funk, hay, theres some peppery grainy rye notes that linger, oak too - that candied sort of peel character keeps coming back - very interesting and unique. Very intense, complex and different; love it!

Bottle. Clear golden amber with no head to speak of.Aroma of cherries grainy bread, light spices, a little sweet liquor (if I say butterscotch schnapps it sounds bad, but I dont mind it) buried underneath. Very close to flat, slightly slippery. A balance of sweet and sour, with some vinegary notes. Cherry is less obvious, grainy and spices perhaps more so. A bit salty as well as sour at the end I wouldnt really have guessed rye. Little intrigue, but tasty with nice balance.

750ml bottle. Burnt amber shade. Decent head initially. Nose is green apple, spices, plasticky. Same kind of taste, orchard fruits leaning towards citrus, puckering sourness. Pretty tasty.

Copper coloured beer without a head. Smells really funky and bacterial, also some rye. Flavour is quite sour and I get some pears, rye, pickles, a bit of sweetness to round it out but overall very sour. Huge beer that is fun to drink.

On tap at Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is slightly fruity (maybe peach, stone fruit), a mild earthy funkiness. Taste is tart, dry (but a good amount of wet fruit notes in there), malty body, some earthy funk. A well-rounded sour (tart, fruity, funky) with great style / character. Very drinkable.
