Sourrento is a sour ale that was inspired by the lemon flavored spirt, Limoncello which hails from the city of Sorrento, Italy. To create this unique, sweetly sour flavor, we aged our sour blonde ale with both lemon zest and fresh vanilla beans. The resulting beer is somewhere between a classic sour ale, a delightful Italian apertif, and a lemon meringue pie.

Vanilla inside and out dominates a clear amber ale. Only slightly tart but that grows in the finish. I like this.

Poured an orange with a white head. Aroma was of lemon and lots of vanilla. Flaver similar, maybe a bit too much vanilla, but good overall.

Bottle shared at kickback. Pours a cloudy pale yellow. White head. Lemon juice aroma. Taste is lemon and vanilla. Vanilla is quite prominent. Medium sourness.

Tap room - Tart lemon and nice vanilla. Cloudy gold with a decent white head. Lemon and vanilla with a touch of acidic heat. Nice.

Pour is a slightly murky orange, tiny head that fades. Smell is citrus from dark places, smells like a rotting orange or a very perfumed lemon. Lime, vinegar, grapes and woody. Taste is heavily of lime, bitter, tart, biting. Very vinegar and honey, wood and sweet balance. Almost like a Kombucha

Bottle shared by a friend. Clear amber pour with a thin white head. Aroma of vanilla, lime, malt and, for some reason, tequila. Malty flavor giving way to sour lime and creamy vanilla before a sour finish.

A steady pour produces a one-finger thick, pale, off-white colored head that disappears fairly quickly. The beer is a pale honey / gold color that shows a clear, golden hue when held up directly to the light. The aroma smells of lactic acid, lime zest, lots of vanilla (which I wasn’t expecting), and has a touch of wholegrain, pale cracker / bread character that is noticeable at times.

Tart and sour up front, the finish starts out with a lime like note, but then it is a rounded, vanilla character that lingers in the finish with an almost slick coating to the palate in some ways. The beer is light bodied, fairly effervescent, and even refreshing if you like sour beers. The lime character becomes a bit more evident after a couple sips, and there is also a toasted, nutty character that lightly flavors this beer; the latter likely a contribution of the oak and pale malt.

Not bad, a bit interesting, but in the end a bit too simplistic to really keep me interested for long.

Bottle. Pale, hazy tangerine hue with merengue-like head. Aroma’s a dessert: rich vanilla bean, sugary lemon, shortbread, oak, gentle funk. The flavor’s a little overshadowed by intense tartness, but beneath the acid is a melange of vanilla, lemon peel and honey. These are traceable up front; the acidity hits like a grenade blast at the swallow and washes everything else out. An interesting beer, just one that’s difficult to drink much of.

Bottle:   Interesting beer, and very unique.   Zesty right up front, lemony, citrus peel, with a huge vanilla bean background.   Its like a lambic as its tart and in some bits sour and even a bit lactic.   The backside reminds me a little of a creamcicle.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Has a darker straw sort of color, with little head and nearly no lacing.   Finishes like a tart and sometimes sour creamcicle.   The lemon zest reminds me of the orange bits, and the vanilla bean reminds me of the ice cream.   Odd beer, but it kinda works.   Thanks Rob!

750, capped. Thanks, J! Pours a hazy medium gold with a loose white head. Big tangy sweet nose, candy like, but not like any specific candy. Just sweet from the vanilla and showing some tanginess like a bard candy. Medium body with light carb. Tangy sweet body, way too much vanilla. Cloying sweet finish.
