COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tart of Darkness is a traditional stout that we aged in used oak barrels from The Bruery that had previously housed beers such as Cuivre or Black Tuesday. We then brought them over to Bruery Terreux, added our special blend of souring bacterias and wild yeasts and watched nature take its course. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty, sour stout. Not a style you will see very often, and in our opinion, not a style seen often enough. This unique stout has notes of tart plums, roasted coffee, vanilla and oak.

7% bottle from Bottledog. Fizzy and jumpin blackish pour. Quickly settles to no head, but fizz still underlying. Aromas of funk, raspberries, i aint getting no malts here. Taste is vinous, sharp, blackberries and raspberries. Some woody smokey warmth. A touch watery on the end, but great long dry finish. Delicious.

Bomber. Pours a dark deep brownish black color with a small rather quick dissipating head. Nose is sour and tart with a bit of oak. Taste is wonderfully sour and deliciously tart with some over ripened fruit. Finishes on the same sour and tart notes, mouth puckering delicious. Quaff Score 8 / 10

Pours a dark brown with a tan head and tart, funky, fruity aroma. Taste is a nice tart sour up front, with barnyard dunk notes, dark fruits, and light roasted malt and oak with a tart, puckering finish. Great sour

Bottle at Schouskjelleren, February 7th 2014. Black body with a thin soft beige head. Aroma of citrus fruits, wood, dark malt, sour cherries. Tart taste of raspberries, cherries and oak with a mild chocolate and toffee note, sweet and sour aftertaste. Very nice.

Coffee, chocolate aroma with sour notes. Black appearance with tan head with avg head retention. Flavor contains notes of red currants. Roastiness is mild and smooth. A high level of sourness is present and lingers in my mouth well into the after taste. Mouthfeel is medium with medium carbonation. Sourness level makes the beer mouth puckering dry. Overall, it's a good American sour. I would prefer a little less sourness though since it overpowers the other complexities of the beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours like a stout. Sour aroma, notes of chocolate, grapes, cherries, and a touch of coffee. Pretty sour taste, nicely balanced with sweet fruit and stout flavours. Comes together quite nicely.

tmrmwel (1925) - Bergen, NORWAY - APR 13, 2014
Bottle, 2013. Pours black with a fairly big airy head. Aroma is very nice and sour with burned malts, balsamic vinegar, and a massive fruitiness, as well as deep dark whiffs of oak and leather. Medium body with creamy texture with soft to average carbonation. Flavour has an initial dryness with a tart fruity yeast and funky brett with lemon peel, but develops more rounded fruity and vinous notes of grapes and oak giving a nice and long tart finish.

Poured a merky dark brown. Aroma was a nice mixture of fruit and roast. The taste had a subtle oak up front the it blended with the roast and fruity characteristics finishing very tart and dry.
