Tart of Darkness is a traditional stout that we aged in used oak barrels from The Bruery that had previously housed beers such as Cuivre or Black Tuesday. We then brought them over to Bruery Terreux, added our special blend of souring bacterias and wild yeasts and watched nature take its course. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty, sour stout. Not a style you will see very often, and in our opinion, not a style seen often enough. This unique stout has notes of tart plums, roasted coffee, vanilla and oak.

Bottle. Near black with tan head that falls to nothing. Funky aroma, lambicy, coco cola, dark berries. Taste of blackberry, blackcurrant, funky lambic notes. Puckeringly tart. Delish

Nice. Sour plum and cherry. Doesnt really taste that much like a stout anymore, not like others that have gone this route. No element of roast really. Finishes medium sour. Pours dark brown with good head and lacing. Tap at Meridian Pint.

Sampled at the bottle sharing prior to Dark Lord Day 2014. It poured into my glass a dark brown color with a light tan head.Nose of dark roasted malts, berries, and some sourness. Medium plus body. Flavor is of the sour berry, wood aging, and the finish is tart, sour, and dry. Really unique and good, but I do not think I could drink much of this.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown with a light tan-hued head that crackles out at a fair pace.

Smell: Roasted malt, thin chocolate, a little vanilla. Vinegary element is noted. Sour cherry, maybe a bit of beautiful raspberry.

Taste: A stout dosed with quality balsamic vinegar, tiny pinch of cocoa powder, a drop of vanilla and a sprinkling of wild berries. Sensibly tart and acidic though a fairly puckering experience. Modest oak. Pinch of lemon. Longly tart finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Active yet smooth carbonation.

Overall: Rather nice, really. I would drink it again. For you. For all of you.

Sampled at DLD 2014. It poured a brown color with a beige head. The aroma was of toasted malts, caramel, some yeast notes, sour berries and wood. The taste was similar to the aroma with a sweet and dry finish. Good stuff.

Bomber. Funny sourish chocolate aroma. Medium translucent brown. Big sour fruit initial, decent mild roast, radishes, and lightly acidic finish. Thin-medium body with some serious acidic tang. Very nice.

750 m bottle, pours dark, aroma is tart blackberry, sour finish. Definitely close to a Lambic style than a stout. Different and memorable, but a little too tart and sour, found it a bit hard to drink, even with 3 of us.

Bottle from Consumers Beverages. Pours absolutely true black, no head or lace. Smells lightly sweet, but definetly sour. Tastes like sour tart candy. Really different and neat.

7% bottle from Bottledog. Fizzy and jumpin blackish pour. Quickly settles to no head, but fizz still underlying. Aromas of funk, raspberries, i aint getting no malts here. Taste is vinous, sharp, blackberries and raspberries. Some woody smokey warmth. A touch watery on the end, but great long dry finish. Delicious.
