COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tart of Darkness is a traditional stout that we aged in used oak barrels from The Bruery that had previously housed beers such as Cuivre or Black Tuesday. We then brought them over to Bruery Terreux, added our special blend of souring bacterias and wild yeasts and watched nature take its course. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty, sour stout. Not a style you will see very often, and in our opinion, not a style seen often enough. This unique stout has notes of tart plums, roasted coffee, vanilla and oak.

UPDATED: JUL 22, 2014 Bottle: Thanks, Kevin! Very black with a hint of deep ruby near the top. Thin khaki film that settles to a thick collar right away. Aroma is lots of wet oak, bloody plums and cherry skins, and apple cider vinegar. Fruity and tart with a damp oak underlayer, there isnt much stout to the nose. Taste is more like an Oud Bruin than anything... Sour cherries, sweettarts, apple vinegar, ripe plum skins, and lots of wet, faintly musty oak. Again, not much stout... Some deep dark fruits on the very, very back end with more drying, tart oak. Im okay with the lack of stout, though, because this makes for a very good Oud Bruin.

Sampel w Chmielarni na Marszałkowskiej. Bardzo ciekawe piwo, choć przefermentowalo tutaj wszystko co było kiedyś stoutem. Bardzo fajne piwo, kwaśne i owocowe.

Niewiele tutaj zostało ze stoutu, głwnie czarna barwa. Wyrazista kwasowość, sporo dębiny, tanin, bardzo intensywna i ciekawa czarna porzeczka.

Bottle at The Growler Spot. Almost black with a small cream colored head. Aroma of light roast and tons of tart cherry/plum. Quite tart tasting with a touch of sweetness. Slick and medium bodied and dry. Very solid.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2016 Serve from bottle. Aroma is earthy, balsamic vinegar, lots of dried raisins and prunes and some biscuit. Flavour is big tart balsamic, fruity dried cherry and prune, a large smokey bourbon note and then a dry biscuit finish to clean up. Surprisingly fizzy body. Gorgeous.

Big nose ! Lightly roasted coffee beans, plums, brandy, vanilla bean. Taste is in the opposite direction. Dried plums, tart cherry, raisins, funky earth, apple cider vinegar. Different sour, in a very good way!

W aromacie kwaśna kawa i wyraźne nuty popiołowe. Wraz z ogrzewaniem pojawia się dyskretna wiśniowa nuta i zapach mokrego drewna. Smak to totalne zaskoczenie. Właściwie ciężko doszukać się tutaj cech typowych dla stout-a. Piwo jest mocno kwaśne, znowu pojawia się posmak wiśni i niuanse dzikie. Dopiero po ochłonięciu, gdzieś w tle możemy znaleźć posmaki kawy zbożowej.
