COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tart of Darkness is a traditional stout that we aged in used oak barrels from The Bruery that had previously housed beers such as Cuivre or Black Tuesday. We then brought them over to Bruery Terreux, added our special blend of souring bacterias and wild yeasts and watched nature take its course. The result is a perfectly tart yet awesomely dark and roasty, sour stout. Not a style you will see very often, and in our opinion, not a style seen often enough. This unique stout has notes of tart plums, roasted coffee, vanilla and oak.

Bottle, shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Dark brown with a short-lived head. Intensely sour aroma and flavour, very lactic, and quite acetic, eclipsing any dark malt character. Too unbalanced for my tastes.

The main flavors here are that sourness with an almost gingerbread note that I find in many Bruery Terreux sours, with a roasty, stout background. I like this quite a lot.

6.6% ABV, bottled 2016 I believe. Pours a dark plum brown with a decent sized khaki head. Musky oak and dark fruit dominate the nose. Very tart, somewhat sweet. Medium bodied, decently active, with a tannic drying oaky finish. Definitely nothing Id want more than a few ounces of because of the level of tartness, but it was great to try this.

Bottle. Dark color. Opaque. Dark brown to black. Low carbonation. Some small bubbles but not much. Aroma is oak, dark wine, chocolate. Vibrant nose. Dark fruit, plums, berries. Slight sour aroma balanced well. Flavor is decidedly tart with dates and plum. Dark roast. Chocolate notes. Fairly well blended between the intense characteristics. Nice.

Are one of their beers that is more on the subtle side. Appearances opaque brown black with a very short-lived fizzy head and no lace. Aroma is tired roast a little bit of coffee and a tiny bit of fruit at the very end. Flavor is like nose fairly dry except for the fruit at the end which is just a suggestion of sweetness. Clean finish.

Although undoubtably a good beer I didnt feel that it lived up to the reputation that preceded it. The dark, roasts flavours of the stout base were almost completely overwhelmed by the lactic sourness. There was a long lasting flavour of sour plums which was pleasant enough. If you didnt know what you were drinking you could be forgiven for likening it to an oud brune.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2017 Bottle - superb sour stout - very light on the tongue - a bit watery so an easy drinker - an excellent chilled drink in the pool on a hot Aussie summer day.

750 ml bottle shared with my wife. Pours a dark cola brown color with a medium sized fizzy khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have light roasted malts, bigger tart dark fruits, plums, cherries, tart to sour finish, wood, mild vanilla, some sweetness, some acidity, good beer that Ive had before and now finally rated.

Tasting @Pułapka Gdańsk

Red fruit and dark malty in aroma. Taste is reminescent of red wine... Vinegar in the finish
