COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Monastic breweries wrote the book on complex ales that weave notes of dark fruits, spices, caramelized character and warmth into each sip. The Order summons that tradition and adds local inspiration. Our darkening, Belgian-inspired abbey ale features dark-fruited character from dates, Belgian-style sugars and subtle spicing from coriander, which compliments the Belgian yeast esters.

Draft at Churchkey from recent notes. Pours a clear deep amber/copper color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, dark fruits, spices, body is medium, Belgian candi sugar, decent enough.

Bottle, WOW did they miss on this. Melted caramel candies that have been left in a car for weeks and vodka. Thats it.

If it is a Belgian ale I will try it. The Order came this way to me. No idea on it, a happy purchase. Given a pour into my ABGB tulip glass the beer shows up a dark amber with a strong, lacey, white-beige head. Lifted to my nose it has a fruity, malty opening. I tasted fig, dark currant, spices, bread and caramel. Very Chimay Bluish, the absolute best compliment I can give. Grand.

On tap at Lunar Brewing Co. and snifters served showing a clear, deep copper color, with a finger’s width of off white/light tan foam, and web-like cling to the lacing. The nose was Belgian yeast & spice, dark & dried fruit as cherry, date & fig, and a touch of malt creaminess. A little heftier than medium bodied, with a lively spritz to the effervescence, the taste was similar, with a slight creaminess to the mouthfeel, some earthy & rind-like bitterness, and alcohol that pleasantly melded with the flavor notes. Not as bold as expected, but definitely a repeater.

Dark mahagony pour. Something between a dubbel and a quad. Yeasty, bready sweet plum chocolate. Good stuff. I was worried coriander, but it was done with a deft hand, and components the beer and figs.

Pours a hazy orange amber with a substantial antique lace head. Aroma is rock candy and toffee. Taste is sweet caramel malt, buttered biscuits, toffee, dried dark fruit and a bit of hop bitterness. Warmth after the swallow gives away the ABV, but alcohol not evident in the taste. Very good.
