The Duck-Rabbit Hoppy Bunny American Black Ale is both intensely hoppy and intensely BLACK! Eight separate hop additions offer delicious bitterness and beguiling hop aroma/flavor. Heavily represented among these hops are Chinook, which provides deep pine and sticky citrus components and a New Zealand hop called Motueka, from which we get bright fruit and spearmint notes.

Bottle sampled at Classic City Brew Fest 2014. Pours a dark black with minimal tan head. Aroma is more toward the roast with a nice citrus hop behind it. Taste is more to the hop flavor, feels like old school hops, the four Cs. Pretty nice.

Pours a dark brown/black color with very nice lacing. Tastes of roasted malts and slightly of coffee. Bitter enough to be an ipa, but not overly bitter. A very difficult thing to do....not taste too hoppy while being an ipa.

Delicious beer! These guys never disappoint! Aroma, unlike the commercial description, was all malt. Strong chocolate milkshake and roasted malt. Hint of green hops but very faint. Pour was a nice deep dark brown/near black with a one finger tan head. Taste was delicious. Now the hops come out. Still very malty and chocolatey, but now a nice bitterness comes out. Pine sap and notes of grapefruit balance out the chocolate and malt goodness. Perfectly balanced. Nice strong carbonation.Cant say enough about this beer.

Deep black with caramel colored fizzy head that reduces to a thin lacing. Smells like a malty IPA. The taste is roasted coffee and malts up front and big citrus and bitter right behind that. Lingering malt on the palette. Great beer.

Lighter aroma. Piney hops. Little roastiness. Looks nice. very dark. Head is creamy tan. Taste is very hoppy. Piney. Dull lingering bitterness on the hops is a little off. Not a lot of roasted charachter. Palate is smooth but the hop finish takes away. Overall this was surprisingly light but a solid beer. A little too hoppy compared to roasty when looking at the style. Good for a hop head.

Draft pour at Barleys. Pours a deep coffee brown with a small beige head that laces the glass. Toasted and roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, earthy hops, a hint of citrus. Right on the money. Really nice. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a dry, roasty mouthfeel. I liked this one a lot.

Pours nearly black - we'll call it black - with a moderately-sized but rich and foamy light tan head. Lots of lacing. Looks like a stout. Aroma is a nice blend of piney hop and chocolate malt. Kind of like roasted hops. Very inviting. The taste amps up these flavors and contrasts. This is like a porter + an IPA (bit more porter). Some astringent citrus and hops and a deep bed of dark roasted coffee malts with a foundational bitterness that seems to come from hops and roasting. Diverse flavors but the balance is off. One of the better black IPA's I've had. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle to glass. About 4 months past enjoy by date. Pours a decidedly black color with a frothy light brown head. Aroma is mostly roasted malts and light burnt coffee bitterness, no hops whatsoever. Hops a bit more apparent in the taste. Lighter in body, perfect for this style. Lingering burnt malt bitterness in the finish. Solid beer, but wish I would have had it fresh to enjoy the true hop character.
