The Duck-Rabbit Hoppy Bunny American Black Ale is both intensely hoppy and intensely BLACK! Eight separate hop additions offer delicious bitterness and beguiling hop aroma/flavor. Heavily represented among these hops are Chinook, which provides deep pine and sticky citrus components and a New Zealand hop called Motueka, from which we get bright fruit and spearmint notes.

Dark beer with a foamy brown head. Sweet malty nose with some cereal grain notes and a nice strong green hop sense to it. Brown sugar sweetness with some puffed cereal, rich chocolate and lots of grassy hops Very smooth mouthfeel.

Better than I thought it would be. I really like the hop choices with this one. Very dank all around. Doesnt really even taste that much like a black IPA as much as a normal IPA. You can taste some roastiness from the malts, but the hops really overwhelm this one, which isnt necessarily a bad thing.

Tasted on tap at Taco Mac in a snifter glass. It poured an opaque black colour with long-lasting beige foam and lace. Highly fragrant hops: citrus, pine resin, floral. I just love those Chinook hops. Light and grainy, bready and toasty, but not nearly as roasty as the colour would predict. Very faint caramel sweetness. More fruit, tropical fruits especially, in the flavours than were present in the aroma. Nicely balanced hoppiness, lots of aroma and flavour complexities without being overly bitter. A good example of the Black IPA/Cascadian Dark Ale style.

Pours a very dark brown with a medium-sized tan head. Just the right amount of bitterness, with spice and caramel notes. Very good!

volatile hoppy fumey aroma. from bottle, why was I thinking this would not be a dark beer? you know, the name, hoppy bunny aba, not thinking the b was for black. and thus it pours, a beauty black beer with a tan head that goes into this rising dough evolution to a plateau. big nasty hoppy black beer, nasty that is if you are a lager lover, heheh. big long bitter finish trenches into your tongue for a finish. does not hide alky well even tho it does not come across as viscous. dark burnt background makes this almost enjoyable.

Pours black with a creamy medium tan head...heavy lacing. Aroma has roasty dark fruits...anise and licorice root. Flavor follows suit...adds a bit of a burnt/bitter/ashy layer. Mouthfeel is light/medium and the finish is dry and ashy/anise/dark chocolate bitter.

Norfolk bottle. Absolutely gorgeous pour that looked like it was in nitro. Big pillowy tan head and tons of lacing. Green hops and dark malt in the aroma. Great balance in the flavor: nice bitterness but also strong malt. Very well done.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured black color with a huge foamy dark brown head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was licorice, roasty malts, tart fruity hops, perfume and a odd slightly off presence. The flavor was bitter, roasty and toasty with notes of anise, rough fruity hops, perfume and again an odd off presence. Long bitter, roasty, anise and fruity hop finish. Medium body. Ok.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2014 12oz bottle, thanks to jmborggren for hooking me up with my favorite style. Black color. Good one-finger brown head, with good retention. Leaves awesome, nearly full sheets of lace. Bigger body. Nice, nearly chewy texture. Light, crisp carbonation. Lightly dry in the finish. Great earthy hop, pine, light roast malts. Hint of dark chocolate. Good moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Some light earthiness. Satisfying black IPA. 8/4/7/4/14

Re-rate from a taster on tap during RBWG 2014: Kind of clear brown, slight red color. Little khaki head. Some lace. Awesome earthy, piney roasty black IPA hop aroma. Exactly the nose I like from a black IPA. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Hint of chocolate. Moderate bitter taste, minimal sweet. Hints of chocolate. Very satisfying, hoppy black IPA. Good roast malt, some dark chocolate, nice light coffee. Good stuff!
