Pours pitch black with a nice bubbly mocha head. GREAT aroma, lots of nice dark fruit, big toasted malt aroma, caramel, milky chocolate and roasted coffee. Taste is somewhat of a letdown, although not bad. An almost peaty, tobaccoish taste, super dark and rich bold coffee flavor, dark fruits, and a nice earthy chocolatey taste. Again, taste isn’t great but not bad. The light smokiness is a little off I think.

This pours from 12oz bottle( looks like best by 01/08. It was hard to read the "notching: on the dates on the label) a pitch black with a hefty tannish head of foam that eventually shrinks to, well, it disappears all together deep into the session. A quick swirling of your glass will fix that. ;^)
The smell is of chocolate, dark fruit, and caramel malt.
The taste has big notes of chocolate and roasted malt with smaller helpings of coffee, dark fruit, citrus, molasses, toffee, and cocoa. Pretty darned tasty. It has a full body and the carbonation is medium. It finishes on the bitter side mostly from the ample hop presence. In fact, the more I sip on it, the more I notice how hoppy this RIS is. Dang. It works for me. And..the alcohol is there but it's not obtrusive. Just a slight warming after the swallow. This is a very nice example of the style and I have to commend Duck-Rabbit for the effort that they put in this brew. I *just* can't get over how so many examples of the style are brewed in the US and they, pretty much all, have something unique in their recipe that puts their personal "stamp" on their product and the end results are my appreciating what is sitting in front of me, in my glass. It's bloody amazing.

BBD 4/18. Pours pitch black, just like a stout should. Outstanding head volume, quite outstanding retention but the lacing is only good.
Outstanding, but typical, nose for a stout. The base has a light sweetness with notes of malt and caramel. Chocolate is subtle while dark chocolate / cocoa is more evident. Roast is present but very little char. Coffee is the primary component but remains subtle. As it warms, a touch of fig is noted.
The body is light full and is deceptively oily and creamy from mid-palate on. The result is a sensation of the body becoming "fuller" as it progresses. The carbonation / body balance is very good but lacks the effervescence to aid flavor separation. However, the lack of prickly carbonation allows for the body to be deceptively "fuller". On balance, the mouthfeel is outstanding.
The flavor profile is outstanding. Balance is world class and results in a very smooth beer flavor wise. Complexity is outstanding while intensity is very good. It begins with roast which quickly yields to coffee. The middle has a light sweetness that allows bitter dark chocolate / cocoa to emerge. Very subtle fig notes emerge as the chocolate fades. Then come the heavy hitters of the stout world - leather and tobacco - that give a RIS some punch. As the finish approaches, alcohol becomes uncovered and provides the typical flavor distraction and astringency. The finish is a slow fade of slightly sweet caramel, leather and tobacco that gives that nice burn at the back of the throat. Unfortunately, the alcohol is also present and the astringency lingers. Hard-to-read label on a standard 12oz longneck. Burnt 10w-40 pour with a small, medium tan head. Chalky, milky, baker’s chocolate and roast aroma, fairly sweet and alcohol-vaporous. Sugary roast up front, a little tarry, the spotlight is on the bittersweet cocoa. Warms the esophagus. Finishes out with sturdy roast, pencil shavings and modeling clay (childhood memory)/chocolate cookie dough. Respectable. UPDATED: JUN 6, 2017 Bottle. Moderate to heavy toasted, coffee, bitter chocolate and molasses for the malt, light herbs for the hops, moderate dough and leather for the yeast, with a hint of tar and charred wood in the background. Head is small, wispy, light brown, with fair lacing and good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and heavily bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy, with a soft carbonation and a drying finish. Nice Imperial Stout, a little out of balance in the flavor, but it?s deep, dark and rich overall.

Pours a thick, extremely dark brown with an ample, creamy, burnt meringue colored head. Very dark roast aromas. Cooked grease, olive, alcohol, chocolate, and some fruit. Thick on the palate. Chocolate, coffee, faint cherry, and wood are all noted in the flavors. Some sweetness, but roasted heartiness dominates. Finishes with green olive.
