COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask and bottle: Special - Spring 2011.
NOTE: Some of the production was allocated to Kernel brewery, where it was bottled as The Kernel London Brick Red Rye Ale with Dark Star and Redemption overprinted on the label.

A special brew amongst friends. Brewed for the 21st Aniversary of the Brighton Beer Fest, as requested by Evening Star landlord Matt Wickham. Brewed at Redemption brewery, with many talented friends: Mark Tranter from Dark Star, Evin O’R, from Kernel, Simon S, from Zerodegrees, James from Brodies, and Angelo and Steve from BrewWharf. This is a big hopped rye ale. Shades of red/amber, over nearly 30% of the grist being Rye. Then hopped in a DarkStar/Kernel/BrewWharf way, with a ton of Simcoe, Centennial and Cascade. HogTownHarry (6823) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - MAR 24, 2017
September 17, 2015 - at Holborn Whippet; keg draught. This was labelled "Kernel London Brick" and the board mentioned it was a collab - clearly it’s this entry, not the one with two rates. Hazy brick-coloured, with a lasting creamy beige head, top looker this one. Aroma has a nice rye bite, some resin bitterness, plenty of vaguely fruity malt backing - very nice. Taste is extremely malty - quite "red (yeah, I know) - some graham cracker, hint of plum - mostly floral/resin bitterness and the right amount of alcohol for a borderline "big" beer - very impressive. Solid, chewy, a bit astringent, decent carbonation, the finish is fairly long and approaches a grapefruit pith linger, but it never overwhelms, neither does the solid alcohol presence. This is a 4.0 for me.

Heidbummer (644) - SCOTLAND - FEB 7, 2017
Bottle from BeerBods. Pours deep russet with foamy/lacy head. Soft malt and caramel aroma, almost perfumed. As with many Kernel beers it has a fantastic soft full mouthfeel. Great balance between spicy peppery rye and malty toffee-ish sweetness. Bloody lovely.

Bottle from Bridgend Services, Freuchie. Pours a dark, reddish amber. Thick, very off-white head. Toffee aromas. Candy Floss. Balanced fruity hops. Pineapple jam. Light candied orange. Pine. Sweet. Taste has sweet sponge cake malts. Bit of earthy rye bread too. Quick onset of crackling bitterness. Dries out fast and really messes with your palate. Quite pithy. Much needed mouthwatering finish. Medium to lightweight body. It could do with a little more body actually. Would balance the bitterness out a little I think. Medium fizz. Tasty.

Cobrizo oscuro velado con espuma marfil. Aromas balsámicos, pino, resinas, cítricos y fondo de malta. Cuepro maltoso, sabrosa, clon sabor como en aroma y amargor resinoso moderado pero largo.

Ktwse (4882) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 30, 2016
New batch, 2016, 6.2 ABV. Pours hazy deep mahogany with low off-white head. Aroma of toffee, citrus, burnt sugar, light butterscotch. Taste is mellow roasty bitter with a mild sweetness followed by a lingering malty bitter finish. Light to medium bodied and smooth with soft carbonation.

Bottle in Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. 6.9% Centenial Simcoe version. Pours hazy ruby with a good foamy cream head. Nice fruity aroma with a touch of pine. The taste has caramel and toffee with fruity notes and pine. Very tasty.

On tap at O’Connors. Hazy dark amber with off white head. Aroma is toffee, burnt sugar, caramel, grass, citrus and pine. Taste is similar, fairly dry, burnt sugar, toffee, fruit, citrus, pine and dried fruits.

minutemat (5474) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - SEP 30, 2015
330ml bottle [6.9%] @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours a deep hazy brown with foamy mocha head. Aroma is hoppy pine and sweet malt. Taste is smooth red ale with pine, rye and sticky tropical elements blending nicely with a growing flavoursome character. Rather lovely.
