Draft. A murky dark brown beer with thin dark brown head. The aroma has notes of rye, chocolate, malt, a bit of alcohol. The flavor is sweet and acidic with notes of chocolate, spices, malt, and rye, leading to a dry and slightly tart finish.

Original. Slightly odd (but not at all unpleasant) nose of minted peas! Semi dry light palate. Mildly toasty malt with a trace of coffee. Mild greenish hops eventually developing some mild orange citrus. Dry finish. Interesting!

9th February 2013
Bramling Cross Pacific Jade. Palate is a little soft and quite dry. Even dark malt with touches of lactose and roast. Dry floral hops with just a little citrus. Nice combination of dark malt and floral hops but it’s a bit too dry. Finishes with a trace of mint. 3.5

23rd February 2013
Columbus Topaz Brambling Cross. Smooth palate with mild fine carbonation. Slightly soft. Mild minerals. Smooth dark malt with a little dark chocolate, coffee and smoke. The back end has mild tropical fruits and tangy orange. Finishes dry with a coffee aftertaste. Nicely balanced and rich. 3.6

Columbus Chinook. Palate is dry and crispy. Rich dark malt but it’s not thick. Bitterish coffee. Minerals. Touch of dark chocolate, unsweet. Back end has earthy hop, mellow citrus and a whisper of skunk. Finishes dry with a strong coffee bitter linger. Unusually harsh for Kernel - quite dry and bitter and thus not the usual sumptuous treat. 3.4
