Bottle from the Kernel Brewery. Ive had this for about 6 months or so. Maybe more. Opens nicely with some wispy aromas. Opaque very dark brown, tan bubbles at the rim, nice lacing, very oily. Nose is dark chocolate but mainly a lot of rich dark fruit. Plum, dried date, dried fig, sultana. Some slight salty molasses or Marmite, alcoholic with a slight cognac or liqueur tone. Taste is rich malty, lots dark fruit, plum, dried fruit, date, fig, sultana. Lots of alcohol, some acidic roasted malt bitterness, wood barrel, alcohol burn, dark chocolate and cocoa powder, caramel, and some lingering black coffee. Also has the salty, malty, yeast extract/Marmite saltiness in there.

Bottle from madmitch76. Pours very dark brown with a small creamy tanned head.Very inviting sweet malty aroma, tons of chocolate and English liquorice, roasted malts and toffee. Smooth, silky mouthfeel, soft carbonated.Taste is loaded with chocolate, dark and thick, roast with some mellow whisky fitting in perfect, very well hidden alcohol, makes this one soo easy drinkable, it could be misunderstood to be a session beer, wrong...

On tap @ Borefts. Lovely lacework on this. Really gluing itself to the glass with a dark ice cream brown head. This on top of a deep dark as good as black body. Struggling to call it anything other than black. The aroma is infused with chocolate and rocky smoke. Salty licorice and even a little bit of cold coffee. Nice not to overpowering this smokiness. More punch in the taste. Warming and a bit of a sting, The chocolate is intensified in the taste compared to the aroma. As is the smoky touches, but here its more of a beefy sweet kind of smokiness. Liqueur and coffee ends this one of. Kahlua perhaps? Its actually quite good. 28.09.2013
